Blu-ray won thanks to Sony PS3
If the Xbox 360 had HD-DVD included as standard that would of meant millions more HD DVD players would have been in living rooms, I have personally hired over 25 Blu-rays from blockbuster since owning a Playstation 3 and this could of been the other format if it was included as standard on the 360.

We have had comments from people that own both HD players and while both are very similar, the cost of HD DVD was preferred by many consumers but with over 10.5 million PS3 consoles sold and Toshiba has sold only one million HD DVD machines, this gives Sony Blu-ray a massive advantage which looks better to the movie studios.

If the Xbox 360 had HD DVD, how many homes would have had a HD DVD drive?

The format was is over, thanks to the official press release from Toshiba

I absolutely love how gaming fanboy idiots always have questioned the idea of Sony putting a so-called “useless Blu-Ray” in their product. “OH!!!!!!! THAT JACKED UP THE PRICE CONSIDERABLY!!!” What morons-complete dumbasses. It was probably the greatest marketing strategy ever to put a Blu-Ray in there and I’m glad Sony did it. All these 8th grade graduate fanboys/girls need to shut up and listen to people who earned a Ph.D from Ivy Leagues in the technology industry.

    ..and the general public shrugged..

Sony took their time and built a quality future proof product.
Microsoft looked to get the 360 onto the market fast and cheap just to get a jump on Sony.
And what did 360 fans get (apart from ripped off)? The Red Ring of Death and clumps of hair missing from their heads.

How dumb can someone be? If X-Box 360 had HD-DVD it would be as expensive as the ps3 was at launch. How many units do you think microsoft would sell then?

  5. Waldo says:

Microsoft aimed for a lower cost for the Xbox 360. The inclusion of a HD-DVD would have bumped the price up and probaly cost a lot of sales. Tied to the fact that the Xbox 360 is prone to overheating, there is no way the high price could have been justified.

Sony took the gamble and it paid off. They wanted a good install base for Blu-Ray, and used the PS3 as a vehicle to reach that target. Obviously the lessons of the previous format war have been well learned.

12 Months later and Blu-Ray wins, the PS3 is now profitable, and seems to be selling pretty well.

Does make you wonder if MS had took the gamble what effect that would have had on the PS3. Would ‘Blu-Ray down the pan’ = ‘PS3 down the pan?’ Possibly not, but there’s no real way to tell.

Anyway the format war is over, Sony has won a well fought battle. Toshiba will be feeling a little ‘blu’ at the moment, but they’ll get over it.

I think that now this war is over, PS3 will sell more as people can now see a clear direction with Blu-Ray. The PS3 is probably the best and cheaest blu-ray player about (at the moment), and it also plays some pretty cool games. :)

PS. Sorry about the ‘blu’ joke. (was pretty bad)

    Gangsta Rick,

Thank god you’re not in this industry. Seriously, had M$ put HD-DVD in at the conception, and sold it to the public, people would have paid for it regardless. It was the first gen console on the market. Ebay is a perfect example of how much people are willing to pay for hype. You’re an idiot.

Format war over, and relatively quick too. Sony here is my pat on the back for you, and your quality product. Now go have you smirking and pointing fingers from the corner.

    Waldo -

    What games are these?

Im buying a Ps3 soon, not getting any games til MGS4 comes out though!!!

  8. Waldo says:

    Fieldog..

It realy depends on the kind of games you like Here are a few…

    Out Now

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Ratchet & Clank: Tools Of Descruction
    Uncharted: Drakes fortune
    Warhawk
    Burnout Paradise
    Devil May Cry 4
    Assassin’s Creed
    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    Ninja Gaiden Sigma
    Unreal Tournament 3

Coming Soon (or maybe a bit later) :)

    MGS4
    Gran Tourismo 5
    Haze
    Resistance: Fall of Man 2
    Killzone 2

These games get over 8.0 on gamespot. Just picked them off the top of my head. But there’s probably enough to keep you going for a while.

  9. shadow says:

    @ waldo.

thats what my friend said.and he ended up getting one yesterday!

i guess he couldn’t wait, to play beyond.

  10. sean says:

I want HD, and I have an xbox 360. I was feeling like getting the add-on, but i am feeling the momentum switch in favor of PS3 and blu ray. i have never seen Killzone or Resistance, but they sound interesting.

so i am feeling a little dissapointed about my purchase of an xbox. i would ebay to fund for a new PS3, but to tell you the truth, $399 is still a little heavy for my pockets.
