Knight Rider 2008: What Did You Think?

Knight Rider was big back in the 80’s but it seems the 2008 TV Movie wasn’t as successful. Although the cast was good and the new improved KITT was awesome, the movie failed to live up to fans expectations. However, as a pilot episode for a series, it has potential.
Val Kilmer excelled as the voice of KITT and it could be argued that the car was the only good part of the movie! The plot, about a bunch of bad guys who try to steal hard drives from Charles Graiman, was a little weak. It seemed the plot was there to just pave the way for impressive car chases.
I wasn’t really impressed by Knight Rider, but that’s just my opinion! I want to know, what did you think of Knight Rider?

I loved knight rider as as kid. could not wait to see this movie. but once it started i was immediately turned off by the character-it was disgusting to see “the hero” as an absolute scumball. There is no reason to take a perfectly great show and make him into a complete jerk. Very disappointed….won’t watch it again.
The car is bad ass. However, the plot of the movie was not all that great.
I was disappointed in the movie. Great car. Didn’t really like the characters, although liked them better in the end. Felt like it was a shallow, stupid movie, when it could have been so much better. Would have liked more connection to the past. More of a passing of the torch from DH to his son’s character.
What’s with the we’re-too-stupid-to-dive-into-the-car-when-the-bad-guys-are-there scene? Instead we stand around and talk and get captured.
Then, when there’s guns to the heads of two characters, they magically manage to overcome the bad guys.
Oh, and the car crash in the end, that in real life would probably have killed the driver…
My boyfriend was disappointed, too.
I might give a series ONE chance, but would need to see a lot more improvement before I’d continue to watch.

I grew up watching the original show and loved every minute of it. I have to say when I first heard of this new one I was really excited! Then I look up the trailer and saw they were using a mustang. Ok I’ll admit in a GM guy (hoping to see KITT as a new Camaro) and that’s why I didn’t like seeing the mustang, but I could deal with it. After all its still a bad ass American mussel car! I guess what really turned me off was it was a giant commercial! So after seeing the trailer a dozen time I prepared myself for total disappointment. After watching the movie I was actually pleased. No the acting wasn’t great, KITT was sorta boring but what really got me was the fact that they tied in the old show with this one. When Michael Knight was waling away I was hoping to see him get into the old KITT and drive off (and yes I know that would not have been correct but I will still hoping to see a cameo from the original KITT. All that said, not sure if it will be as good as the original but I’ll watch it…keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn’t turn into that other knight rider show where they had like 5 cars and they all sucked.
I never really watched the old Knight Rider - I knew about Hasselhoff (I am not a fan of his acting) - I thought this new one was the start of a series and I was looking forward to the next episode to see how they did with the story and action past this establishing pilot episode. Car is fun - new guy needs a better hair-style (looks a little like a dufuss) but I felt there was otential if they went for good story writers.
i thought it was pretty good. not spectacular, but really good. i liked the hotel room scene where you werent sure who was gonna come through the door and then it cuts to commercial! nice suspense! i think the show needs to tie up some loose ends in the process, but a good start has been made to revamp a tv legend! loose ends like wheres michael been for the last so many years and what were his “obligations” he had to leave mike and his mom for? why was the trans am dismantled and is this kitt taken from the old kitt with memories of being in the trans am or is this a new kitt with no memory of michael knight? what happened to devon and bonnie other than the real guy who played devon dying in real life? will the cool swoosh sound the hood light made on the trans am ever come back please? and will we ever hear the original voice of kitt come back? i liked val kilmer but sometimes he can sound a little light in the loafers! but i liked the humorous and clever personality the new kitt had! i thought the acting wasnt half bad and the hoff making a cameo was awesome and only makes me hope he plays a big part in this with at least one reference to the old show and the unfortunately bad knight rider 2000 movie and what happened between that and now! if they tie up some loose ends i think the show is going to be great!!
ps i kinda really wished danny or someone else from las vegas wouldve made a cross over cameo when he was in the monticedo! that wouldve been awesome!! and you’re telling me with how mike cannon watched those security cameras like a hawk and jumps on anything that looks fishy he wasnt watching three shady guys attacking mike and the girl and doing something about it?! that was the only part i really was kind of let down on. i mean if you’re gonna use the set of another show on nbc, use the actors for that show too even if its only like 2 seconds of cameo footage!! still loved it anyway though and one more thing, instead of the cobra can we get to see the knight corporation logo on the car in a couple of places? that would be awesome!!
I thought the movie hit on all cylinders. Yes, the characters (including KITT) need some development, but that comes with time and is part of the fun of watching the show develop. Many fine series, especially sci-fi, tend to build there characters over time (STNG, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, etc…). I thought I saw some of that development in Val Kilmer’s KITT as the movie progressed. A little less stuffy and a bit more humor and personality as the movie progressed, especially in the crash scene with the Denali where KITT questions what Mike was about to do.
The film also had a high quality edge about it. It did not look like your typical made for TV movie.
I do agree that Ford pushed the advertising angle a bit hard, but the advertisements with the jealous KITT following Mike on his date was very reminiscient of what the original KITT might have done.
I’d like to see the series developed and see how it plays out.
i am a die hard knight rider fan but i was a little disappointed in the movie.for most of the show kitt was only drivin all over the place, actin was horrible and come on kitt has personality, i am sorry val but your voice was too dead for the part.i really want kitt to come out in the fall but the show needs alot of changes.
i love ford mustang, so kitt u look gorgeous…
I thought it was very good. I wasn’t thrilled at first with Val Kilmer doing the voice of KITT but it was good. Only thing is in a previous movie they had a Knight Industries Three Thousand, not to mention KITT’s nanoshell only works when the computer was on compared to the original’s chemical bonded shell. But aside from all that I can’t wait for the show to pick up. Sure there was some bad acting in it but acting in the 80s was no better and with the garbage on tv these days who is going to notice the difference?
