Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 tested, performance boost missing & slows down tasks

Ok over the last few months everybody has hear about Microsoft Windows Vista SP1, but is it all what it is cracked up to be? Well CNET had a crack at testing it and came up with some really interesting views.
So shall we see what the test revealed shall we? According to the guts over at CNET their early tests of Windows Vista SP1 apparently and many thinking about all the performance enhancements to be had are mostly driver related.
What this means is if you have been updated all along you will not see much in the way of an improvement on performance, and the worse thing of all is things like copying files to USB 2.0 hard drives which have gotten around 50 percent slower.
The tests revealed that a speed hit overshadows the other file system improvements in Windows SP1, so what does this all mean though? We would have to say that Windows Vista SP1 is a very good as a worthy update but do not expect anything in the way of being faster.

When did we all start to have this expectation of a service pack making something “faster”? A SP is meant to fix things that are broken and maybe add a new feature or two. I think it is horrible that Vista news is focusing on the “speed” performance of Vista Service Pack 1 and not the fixes and the additional features it will add. It also gives an unfair expectation from Users and sets up dissatisfaction from End-users.
I’m not Vista lover (I use Leopard and threw my Vista machine out the door long ago) but these constant “insights” on Vista and performance boosts being “lackluster” are unrealistic and is an under-handed shot at Microsoft.
In response to the above comments, you don’t seem to realize that Microsoft have publicly claimed that SP1 will deliver improved performance, that is where the expectation came from.
From what I have read over the past few days, the reality of SP1 is that it does NOT overall deliver the performance improvements that Microsoft itself has claimed it would.
