As we all know there has been a lot of press about the 360 red ring of death problem and It has been said that the company estimates pinned it at a fairly normal 3%, while some retailers have put the percentage as high as 1/3 of all systems.
SquareTrade deals in selling warranties for electronics, and has amassed their over 1000 warranty purchases to come up with some interesting data.
The findings were a 16.4% failure rate of Xbox 360 systems, versus a roughly 3% rate for the Sony PlayStation 3 or the Nintendo Wii with sample sizes in the high hundreds. The well-known “Red Ring of Death” error accounted for about 60% of those hardware failures, and thus most system-breaking problems are covered by Microsoft’s extended warranty plan.
What do you think?

I have had to send my 360 in 3 different times in the past 2 years for the ring of death. . . Both buddies that I know that have them have had to send in their units at least once. I wont make the mistake of buying an xbox again.
It is, unfortunately the games for the PS3 are decidedly NOT amazing. It’s really annoying seeing idiots hack at the 360 just because they don’t own one and think somehow that the PS3 is better. I have both, the games look EXACTLY the same on them. It’s true. Sure PS3 hardware looks better on paper, but until they translate that into a decent game, your just folding for some stupid university and donating your time to crappy video games.
Also if you have had 3 XBOX’s die on you in a year, it’s probably not the XBOX that’s defective.
all lies xbox 360 works great for me and owned it mad long
I know four people that have xboxes and two had the problem. Those two happen to be the heavier users, so my theory is that all the ones that haven’t had the problem just haven’t played it enough to get the problem. I had not played mine a whole lot until Call of Duty 4 came out, so now I’m wondering how long mine will last. It’s apparent now that Microsoft rushed this thing to market, and I can only hope that the ones they are making now are better.
I’ll pass on the third party warranties (waste of money) and class actions (victims get coupons and lawyers get cash). I’ll just consider all of this next time I see a piece of hardware from Microsoft.
360 sucks balls they screwed me on a live card, live sucks balls it seems like it is always under construction for something stupid, not to mention your system will crap out in three months of use. the costomer service sucks youll be lucky if you can understand the guy your talking to, and then he will tell you that he cannot help you, or youll wait on hold for hours untill you can talk to someone. so all in all im selling the 360 and buying a ps3, sorry xbox but you suck. bill gates can kiss my A$$
Wow! I never heard of that one problem is Xbox 360. Many people don’t need buy Xbox 360 console. Just buy Disc of games and you can running game on new latest Xbox 360 Emulator compatible with Windows XP and Vista to running non-error free. Stop worry about Xbox 360 console in the future. PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 Emulators will come soon to be release out sometimes. But we can pay about 20 to 100 dollars for Emulator to allow run all of games and previous games. Sensor USB will come for PC to add on and play Nintendo Wii without problems. Easy way to do! You can play USB joystick look like PS2 will work on PS3 and Xbox 360. Wii is more hard to get. Let us think bright new things in the future without need buy consoles. But we need powerful gaming computer machine to running all any Emulator by 100% percent. We want perfect emulator like Super Nintendo, Sega, Nintendo 64, NES, Gameboy Advance, and much more.
Peace!!
Huh, that is funny, how at first, people are complaining about that the ps3 is a piece of crap, and now they are saying it the other way around. I am a big fan of sony, because of quality. The ps3 is really powerful. Anyways, I used to be an xbox fan, but after the ps3 came out, I relized how good sony is. Also, the xbox 360 is made in china, which usually is low quility, and that might explain why.
You’ll notice XBOX360 is shipping neither elite, premium, or core systems anymore. They are working on improving and slimming/shutting up the 360. Two months and viola.
3 times less than a year!!!!!…I think is far more than 16%..no product of Microsoft will enter this house again!!
personaly i think that there % is off by some because personal iv had to send in 4 xbox360s before i finally got one with out some type of error or red ring so all in all maybe im unlucky or microsoft are a bunch of lazy cheap basterds you tell me
