Natalie Cole Upset Over Amy Winehouse Winning Grammy Awards

Natalie Cole has said that the Grammy voters are setting a bad example to young stars and handing Amy Winehouse five awards.

Natalie who was among the presenters at Sunday night’s prize-giving in LA was stunned when Amy picked up five of the six awards she was nominated for.

Natalie said that she feels Grammy voters were wrong to hand out prizes to such a bad role model. She said that “I think she has a great talent, but I don’t agree with the Grammys giving her those nods. I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards. It’s a slap in the face to musicians and artists who work very hard that they turn around and give it to someone who really obviously doesn’t have a grasp of what she has. I’ve been in this business over 25 years and I sacrificed five years of my own life on drugs and almost lost my life because of it. So I take great offence to almost see someone getting glory out of being in the position that they’re in - she needs to get her life together and embrace her craft”.

What do you think?

Just because someone has got some personal problems does not mean that they should not be recognised for her music.

Could Natalie be jealous of Amy?

some of the greatest pieces of creative arts have been created under the infuence of drugs, its the creativity and talent that we celebrate, and its not supposed to be a an award highlighting moral goodstanding, there’s other awards for that

I am soooo tired of people being so judgmental… Everyone has somesort of problems
That has nothing to do with the incredible talent Amy Winehouse has…or the fantastic, real album she wrote.

No “creative pieces” have come out of doing drugs, when you are that wasted you cannot create anything except things close to what a 5 yr old could come up with. She definitely should not be awarded. It was not HER who made herself, it was everyone that made her. She would not be able to do it alone, god knows how long it takes them to get her to sober up just so they can understand what she is saying and record the song. If the Grammys denied her awards maybe it would help inspire her to get off drugs. Unfortunately everyone close to her acts if she does not have a problem. Even when shes mumbling and doing lines literally on stage no one stops the show, they just act as if its not happening.

I agree with Natalie Cole. Understandably she was speaking from personal experience, in retrospect. As I read the comment made by HextonRebel, I must noted that he has made a valid point also. Due to straddling the fence on this issue, I guess I close by noting, one’s opinion comes merely from wherever their heart stands. If your heart leans more toward morality, you tend to offer morally opinions. If you look at things for face value, your opinions seem to lean more towards what u see and what u get. Peace Out!

The Grammy Awards are about accomplishments in music, not personal lives or personal problems. It’s all about the music. Amy Winehouse has the music and she earned the awards. I love listening to her and I send her alot of positive energy in hopes that she will get well soon and defeat her demons so she will continue to make the music I love for many years to come.
