Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training has been slammed by the TV programme Watchdog which appears on BBC, they are saying that it discriminates against the northern accent. Nicky Campbell who hosts the show said that it has trouble picking up northern accents particularly the words blue and yellow.

“Basically you have to say the different colors that flash up on the screen as quickly as possible. I’m saying, blue, blue, blue and it’s saying no, even though it was blue” said Manchester-based disc jockey Michelle Livesey

My dad got brain training at Christmas and when testing it out for myself I did find that it wouldn’t pick our voices up very well, even when pronouncing our words correctly and I’m from up north too. Also I think that there is something to do with how far away you hold it away from your face.

I am an American living in Leicester and my wife is English originally from Kent and it does the same to us. I don’t think it is discriminating I think it just has poor voice recognition.
