The newly launched Korean version of YouTube has flopped in the local video sharing scene according to a report by Korea Times. Rankey, the internet traffic monitoring company reported a surge of traffic of 382,000 daily visitors to YouTube English and YouTube Korea on the 23rd January but the extra traffic didn’t last leaving the site at just 115,000 daily visitors.
When compared with YouTube’s biggest local rivals it shows how poor the figures are. Pandora TV has an average of 997,000 daily visitors and Mncast, Mgoon, Gom TV and Afreeca are ahead by two to five.
Of course, YouTube are claiming it’s still early days so it’ be wrong to draw conclusions just yet but their PR official has said,
“Koreans are not well aware of us yet, so we are planning to launch promotion campaigns in March.”
