Women dominated the box office this weekend with the top four movies all starring ladies in lead roles. The ladies were helped greatly by the fact that many women in the US were Superbowl widows this weekend who fled to the safety of a chick-flick.
Taking the top spot this weekend was daughter of ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer Billy-Ray Cyrus, Miley Ray Cyrus, with her tween movie Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert. The film raked in a whopping $29 million over the weekend.
The ladies continued to lead with Jessica Alba’s horror flick ‘The Eye’ making $13 million and 27 Dresses and Juno took third and fourth place earning $8.4 million and $7.5 million respectively.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t just a good weekend for last weeks box office bad boys Meet The Spartans and Rambo, which both tumbled by 61.5% and limped in to fifth and sixth spots.
Highly-anticipated Cloverfield’s third week at the box office was disappointing, with the film raking in just $4.9 million.
