Pat Boone, seen to many as Elvis Presely’s biggest rival back in the 50’s, kept the hits coming during his 1 ½ hour set last Sunday at Cypress Gardens Adventure Park. For his final encore, Boone played ‘Under God’ which is a song he said he wrote “out of necessity” when he was asked to appear on CNN with Michael Newdow to discuss the atheist activist’s lawsuit to remove the words ‘under god’ from the Pledge of Allegiance.
Boone, although a strong rival of Presley’s in the 1950’s, hasn’t really made a dent in pop music history. However this didn’t deter fans from singing along to hit after hit including his cover versions of Ain’t that a shame and Tutti Frutti.
Boones love of music, even all these years on, was still prominient during his set with a great performance of April Love with the help of the crowd.
