British band Iron Maiden are proving that heavy metal has still got worldwide selling power.
Iron Maiden are in India where they have just kicked off their latest world tour, the band has been mobbed by young rock fans, eager to see the band play live.
Band member Steve Harris has said that “People love us here and it’s brilliant. A guy from the record company here told me once: ‘Come to India - you’ve got loads of fans here’ and at that time we weren’t aware of it. But last year we played Bangalore and it was just fantastic and now we’re back again.”
Despite being around for over 30 years, Iron Maiden are actually spearheading a new wave of hard rock here in India.
Teenagers fed up with mass market Bollywood music are buying into heavy metal in a big way.
Mihir Joshi is a rock DJ on Mumbai radio station, Rainbow FM: “Metal is huge in India and rock music in itself is growing in a big way. That growth is going to keep happening I think, it’s not going to stop in any way.”
Iron Maiden are playing 26 dates as part of their Somewhere Back In Time world tour, including Twickenham Stadium on July 5.

Irons forever !!!!!
I just saw Iron Maiden last night 3/14/2008. At the Izod Center East Rutherford, New Jersey USA.
There were 20,000 fans, (ages ranging from 5 to 65!)waiting to get into the arena. My son and I finally got to our seats, section 206 row 19 seats 7-8. The band finally came on and it was electric. Everyone was standing and singing and just yelling and cheering…and to watch my son having the time of his life, it was incredible…it was priceless! The band is one of the world’s premier hard rock/heavy metal acts of all time. The show was awesome, they played songs i haven’t seen them do in 25 years. Simply put, Iron Maiden has withstood the test of time, there isn’t any other band that rivals maiden’s accomplishments, they never dissapoint the fans and thay just kickass.
