Miss America 2008: Kirsten Haglund

Kirsten Haglund who is just 19 and from Michigan was last night crowned Miss America 2008. Kirsten also won the accompanying $50,000 scholarship.

Kirsten Haglund was born in Farmington Hills, Michigan on 30th November 1989.

Kirsten’s family has a history of pageant participation, with her grandmother competing for the Miss Michigan title in 1944 and her mother an active pageant volunteer.

On June 16, 2007, Kirsten was crowned Miss Michigan - her platform was raising awareness of eating disorders, something very personal after Haglund herself struggled with anorexia four years ago. She got help after her family’s intervention.

Do you think that the right girl won?

I think that I am glad you won. At first when the shows started I judged you way too much. I thought you smiled a ton, but I guess all that smiling payed off. I think you will have a fantastic year! CONGRATS!
