HD DVD Beat In Japan: Blu-ray 90% player sales, not Sony PS3

HD DVD Crushed by Blu-ray

Reports from Japan’s Business Computer News are showing that over the last 3 months Blu-Ray has been crushing HD DVD, it looks like the high definition war is over in Japan looking at the figures.

90% of standalone player sales were Blu-ray and that does not even include the Sony PS3 (which we know makes up many more people with Blu-ray).

This was a major study which included over 2,300 electronic stores across Japan, it revealed a lot about the state of the next-gen format war and that Toshiba’s HD DVD players accounted for just 4% of the sales.

    Haha, who the hell cares about HDDVD!!!!
    We have Blu-Ray!! I’m sure Sony is winning this one too, I mean… Toshiba!!! Come on!!

    So yeah, like the war ended in Japan, it will soon end in Europe and the US… And as for the middle east, the war hasn’t even started, because Blu-Ray has already taken over in countries like Egypt and the UAE… And about other countries like the Gulf, they haven’t even heard of HDDVD, Its Blu-Ray All The Way!!!

    From a technical standpoint blue ray is far far superior, right now a blue ray disc can hold 50 GB but a HD-DVD can only hold 30 GB. This gap will widen even further once the technologies fully mature with blue ray being able to eventually hold a maximum of 100 GB and HD-DVD topping out at 50 GB.

    i couldnt really care either way, i’ve started my HD-DVD collection & have some awesome films due to the very cheap 360 add on, if blu-ray wins cool, i’ll start getting those when i pick up a PS3. Then i’ll buy a stand alone cheap HD-DVD player when (if) the arse drops out of the HD-DVD world to play my current HD film collection on, We are all winners!. Just hurry up & get this war won either way,
    so we can all pick up some lovely HD bargains!!
