This video shows a HDMI vs Component comparison on the Sony PS3, the game used is “Uncharted Drake’s Fortune” and they look very similar.
The obvious answer is that HDMI is better, but looking at the video below it shows that the difference is very small.
The fact is that HDMI with a HDTV is a way better picture, but Component vs HDMI on a high definition TV is very similar which might be why the first Xbox 360 did not have HDMI.

Wow it’s genuinely taken you this long to find this out. Welcome to 2005.
Component looks better than HDMI weird
really? then why microsoft screw early adopters with cheap xbox without HDMI that broke all the time… and the realease the “superior” xbox with HDMI
also, its only me or anyone else think that comparing HD source over very compressed internet format that give you less color and quality than a VHS is like using blur glasses and see the sources from the next-door front door
the thing is that the sound on HDMI is much better so even though component is close on video quality….
overall HDMI kicks its ______(insert favored word)
who cares! uncharted was badass! thats all that matters!
hdmi will always be better and will show better results in professional test by experts.
I watched this comparison in hd and you do see hdmi have a slightly sharper picture. A better comparison is to do component vs hdmi then do component vs hdmi with rgb on full for hdmi and you see what hdmi is about. More sharper and better colour. GT did this test with rgb on limited and you can’t cap hdmi’s performance. Thats like doing a track test with 2 cars and limiting the bhp on one of them.
HDMI has more bandwith for uncompressed data transfere while component has the data compressed for lesser quality.
The reason why the Xbox didn’t include it was because they are cheap. After the PS3 was released, the Xbox came out with HDMI to compete. People can say the PS3 is expensive, but it comes with everything needed without adding USB devices like Wireless, HD-DVD drive, and only recently did they add HDMI. Soon we will see the Xbox release a Blu Ray drive, mark my words.
yes true scott but the thing is with all these 360 fanboys saying yeah the xbox will have a blu ray add on soon enough as if they are winning when they are totally dumb to the fact that 1 sony can refuse microsft the rights to have the add on and 2 if sony do agree do people not relize that microsft will lose a crap load of money again as they would have to pay sony for every blu ray player sold so ps3 wins fact
Because I did a simular test at home with my 360 i need to tell you about. But the Video shown above really does not show much of a difference between HDMI and Component. The PS3 does a great job of uscaling movies but their game graphics behind the PC and the 360. I added this to show how many people will ignore everything else and focus on that coment. Anyway so I had my buddy come over with his Elite and we hooked it upto my newly bought LG 42″. I have the old premium and only have component connection. So we had Gears of War in and the difference between Component and HDMI was incredibly noticable. There were details that were not showing up on my TV with component that I could see with HDMI. I felt so cheated and inferior. Because of that experience I’m now on a quest to get a HDMI 360 or the Madcatz HDMI Conversion. But here is where the joke comes in. I had my Component running at 1080P and when we hooked up the Elite we never adjusted the settings and we tried 5-6 game comparsions and the elite was making my old premium look stupid. I thought my games looked so good when I got my TV and then this comparsion happened. Well like I was saying, when I looked at the elite setting it set to 1080i and it was blowing my component set at 1080P. After we set the Elite to 1080P it was even better.
