Sony PS3 YLOD
Everyone knows about the Xbox 360 RROD (red ring of death) thanks to some 33% of games consoles getting this problem, now we have proof of the Sony PS3 death with a so called YLOD.

The video below shows a Playstation 3 with yellow lights, it sounds like a hard drive gone bad to me from the clicking noise as that’s what I have had with many PC hard drives.

Every product gets faults, but it’s just what percentage of that product that counts. We have heard around 1% of PS3’s have problems and why shouldn’t they, but this is nothing compared to the well known and joked about world-wide RROD.

In the case of the gamer that made this video below, his console has already been taken away by Sony.

Update:
raza514 made a good point, the sound is not coming from the ps3….it was there before he turned it on.

It’s amazing hearing all this “360 propaganda” crap people are saying about the YLOD when it does happen. I mean it has been in mags, websites, and even youtube. Thing is, it does happen, not as much as the RROD but it does happen. Also, I love all the “Im on my 15th xbox” yea right, any idiot in their right mind would have stopped at MOST at the 3rd one, not send it back 14 time so I say those are BS comments.

I also love the math, people are saying 7 out of 10 get RROD. Ummm, ok, that would be 70$. THe real figure is 33% which is 3.3 out of 10. Also, you gotta remember that was for the systems coming out during like the first year and newere boxes have nt been having problems.

Still, the 360 has sold more units then the original xbox in 2 fewer years and has like 14 million live subscribers so they are doing well. Yes, recently Sony said there were 14 million PSN users as well but that also includes PSP users. Thing is, 14 mil at $50 a year is a lot more impressive than 14 mil at $0. I mean SOny should charge something, even if $10 a year that would be $140 mil in xtra income.

Bottom line and back on topic, the YLOD has been a proven issue, it is not a slight on sony. ANy mass produced electronics will have failures. The PS3 is not perfect and to think so is very retarded.

To all of you who post comments about the ps3 and say that it is fake you are dumb.Do some research on the YLOD (yellow light of death) it is real and it is happening to alot of us who bought launch versions of the PS3.You losers who have only had your system for a couple of months obviosly don’t have this problem Ill see you in a year when your crying about your system going to hell.Bottom line if it hasn’t happend to you good ,but don’t post saying its not true because you obviosly don’t know. You look like the same idiot’s who tried to defend xbox before it became an epidemic just wait its your turn next .

The same exact thing happened to me today…I was playing fallout 3 when all of the sudden my system simply powered off. Now my game is stuck inside and I can’t even get it out. If I wanna send it out to Sony its going to be atleast $150…this problem definately is real and seems to be happening alot more often now. I have a 20gb launch console by the way.

it is real. When the ps3 overheats (like the 360) it will shut off and not work. It may not be overheated, the whole motherboard may be “dead”. a fix has not been found yet like it has for the RROD.

it’s true. it happened to me.

If you read the user manual for the PS3, it says if the system begins overheating, the power light begins flashing between red and green, and a message is displayed on-screen. If it continues to get hotter, the PS3 shuts itself down so as to not blow up (or damage the system in any way). :P (That’s much better of an idea than the 360’s idea of letting the system melt then changing the ring lights to red.)

There is no yellow light in the PS3, except the HDD access indicator. When the lights blink like the manual says, obviously both are going to be on at the same time for a split second when switching to the other light.
Red + Green LED light = Yellow

I’m a die hard PS fan and I laugh at all the people saying this is not common and it’s usually an XBOX fanboy making the PS3 look bad. I’ve had my PS3 for about 2 and a half years and sent it in 3 times for the same problem (YLoD) and Sony has yet to actually “fix” my problem. I know 5 other people who’ve had this problem so so much for the 1% of owners getting it, huh? I thought about jumping ship to XBOX but then I’d have to buy all my games again and wouldn’t be able to play my Blu-Ray movies so I didn’t lol

  8. Kelly says:

Yes, I agree that clicking noise is heard before the ps3 was turned on. As for everything else, my ps3 is doing the exact same thing! Just happened 2 days ago, out of the blue, i got the same lights and it wont start up. I have a 80gig that I have had for 1 1/2 years with no problems at all until 2 days ago. After doing alot of research on the net, there are many, many people with the same problems.
