Zac Efron Breaks Free From High School Musical: He’s Set To Star In Period Film Me And Orson Welles

With the mere mention of his name, pre-teen girls all over the world collapse into a heap of high school musical gibberish but it seems Zac Efron’s next movie role will be entirely different to what fans are used to seeing him in.
Richard Linklater has signed Efron on to appear in his next movie Me and Orson Welles. The film is based on the period novel by Robert Kaplow. The film, set in 1937, will follow the story of a high school student (Efron) in New York who strolls into the legendary Mercury Theatre, founded by Orson Welles, and manages to land a part in Julius Caesar. Efron’s character then spends a week learning love and life lessons.
Efron joins Christian McKay as Welles, and Ben Chaplain as English actor George Coulouris.
With Efron so famous for his all-singing, all-dancing roles in Hairspray and High School Musical, Me and Orson Welles will finally give us the chance to see if Efron can actually act.
