It’s just a rumour at the moment but Gamefront.de has reported Sony isn’t ready to turn its back on backward compatibility just yet, according to a job ad put out by the company.
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is currently advertising a job for a software engineer to take on and deal with backward compatibility for both the PS3 and an unspecified next-gen console, could this be a PS4?
The engineer’s specific job would be to implement and optimise emulation software for PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 games on the two formats.
It’s interesting that the PS3 is mentioned as part of the job brief, but what is more exciting is that development on the unspecified next-gen console (PS4?) Is so advanced that Sony are now able to start thinking about specific software.
The fact that Sony’s PS3 isn’t backwardly compatible with the PS2 hasn’t gone down well with many gamers and the thought of this changing should make PS2 and PS3 owners very happy. Not only that, but the PS3’s popularity would increase substantially.
Of course, this is all speculation, but a guy can dream can’t he?
