Cloverfield/1-18-08: Will There Be A Sequel?

We all know that today it’s January the 18th. We also know that today is the day that JJ Abram’s mysterious monster movie Cloverfield/1-18-08 hits US theaters. So, although the excitement is almost too much to bear, I think we should talk about Cloverfield and the possibility of a Cloverfield 2.

The studio have done their utmost to stop us from finding anything out about Cloverfield. It seems like their diligence has paid off as movie lovers are hungry to see this ‘mysterious’ film. Unlike many of last years releases, there hasn’t been any spoilers, any Cloverfield ending leaks or any available torrents and so for those seeing the movie tonight, it will be like going into the unknown.

With the latest Cloverfield reviews revealing that most journalists are fuming at the ending, does this mean that an open ending could be possible? And, if so, does that indicate that there could be a Cloverfield sequel?

On the red carpet at yesterday’s premiere, director Matt Reeves hinted at the possibility,

“Only time will tell. While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie! In today’s day and age of people filming their lives on their iphones and handy cams, uploading it to youtube…That was kind of exciting thinking about that.”

Have you seen the movie? What are your thoughts on the possible Cloverfield sequel?
