Are smaller 40GB and two USB ports putting you off buying a Sony PS3
I am due to go on holiday soon and once I am back I plan to purchase a Sony PS3, ok I know that you are laughing that I still do not own one. The thing that I am annoyed with is that Sony no longer makes the 60GB PlayStation 3, they only produce the 40GB in the UK, and this new model now comes with just two USB ports.

My cousin said to me do not worry about only having a 40GB hard drive as you can add an external hard drive, that is ok but you have to remember that you only get two USB inputs. I know that you can also get a USB hub, but it just defeats the object of having a sexy looking games console only to spoil it by adding all these extra things to it.

It is for this reason that I hope that Sony rectifies this and comes up with a better solution.

No, its the lack of games thats putting me off. Also the fact it’s huge and I have nowhere to put one other than the space used for my 360, Wii and suround sound decoder.

I think you have answered your own questions!
Personally, two USB ports are enough at the moment and the hard drive is sufficient but I dont see them problem attaching extra hubs like I would my PC.

I understand your annoyance. I was lucky enough to get one of the 60GB ones before everywhere ran out of stock.
To be honest, you can upgrade the internal hard disk very easy with pretty much any 2.5inch SATA drive (just like those for notebook PCs) and Sony don’t have a problem with you doing it yourself. Or like you say, add a USB hard drive and a hub if you need to. Even though I have 4 USB ports I don’t think I have ever had more than 2 things plugged in at once. I have a wireless USB keyboard which is plugged in most of the time (although not used very much) and I alternate between having my USB hard drive plugged in or Sixaxis controller charging up. Very rarely I plug in my old PS2 EyeToy or a USB memory stick but never at the same time as something else. I could quite happily get away with just two USB ports, although I would be a little upset about losing the PS2 compatibility in the 40GB model.

Not so much with the smaller hard drive and fewer USB port…

But the lack of backward compatibility is definitely putting me off.

I want a PS3 with backward compatibility at $399 or below. Otherwise, I’d pass.

In fact, Sony should just use a 20GB hard drive. I prefer to upgrade the hard drive myself (to 500GB).

However, I want that PS2 backward compatibility on the PS3… mostly because I want the hi-def upscaling of PS2 games.

Funny how the people want what they dont have or cant have…

Im waiting for sony to release the 40gb in my country, to finally buy one…

You get a nearly silent ps3, use less power, cost less, i think is just better and the way to go, 2 usb and memory card reader less, is not a big lose.

Remember my words, as soon as the 80gb sold out in every territory (its the only you can get in my country and i dont live in US) sony will release a firmware update that bring PS2 backward compatibility to all models, via software emulation like in PS1 games, maybe in 2.5 or 3.0 firmware, i expect it in the 2.0 but they have still some 80gb with that “bc plus” to sell.

    2.0 is already out.
