First up we got the launch of Apple TV Take Two at Macworld 2008, then we get all the details on iTunes rental movies and now we are hearing BBC wants in with their iPlayer.
You can view the BBC Blog here that has a blog posting by Ashley Highfield who is the Director of Future Media and Technology at the BBC.
Although the details are very thin on this, it seems that the BBC iPlayer may actually see time on Apple’s new TV platform.
Ashley said in his blog posting “we can look to getting BBC iPlayer onto this platform too, as we should be able to use the rental functionality to allow our programmes to be downloaded, free, but retained for a time window, and then erased, as our rightsholders currently insist.”

The Apple iTunes Movie Rental sounds like a useful service. However, I hope they make the download part global so peopel outside the USA can also experience good download speeds. I understand iTunes Movie Rentals allow you 30 days to start watching the movie. When you start watching you have 24 hours to finish it.
$2.99 is a buck less than TW charges for a PPV.
Subscription models don’t make sense for most consumers.
