Jamie’s Eat To Save Your Life: What Are Your Thoughts?

We all know that it’s important to eat well and stay healthy and as part of the Big Food Fight season on Channel 4, Jamie Oliver vowed to let us Britons know exactly what our ‘fast food’ diet is doing to us physically and mentally.
Jamie had some help in the form of physician and fitness expert Dr Catherine Spencer-Smith, nutritionist Jane Clarke and anatomist Dr Gunther von Hagens (you know the one!). These experts were able to show the 18, very brave, volunteers just what their terrible diets are doing to them. The programme managed to change the volunteers view on their diet and I’ve no doubt that it has changed yours too.

As with his shocking Fowl Dinners, Jamie used dramatic demonstrations to convey his point further. Hey, it worked with Fowl Dinners – so did it work this time round? Well, the autopsy of the 25-stone man certainly made me gasp. It definitely makes me think about my diet and how easy it was for this man to eat himself to death and it scares me to think that this is the diet many of our children are growing up to take as normal.
Did anyone catch the glimpse of the poor pig when he was making the sausage roll? Was the pig head really necessary?
As for that poor woman who was told she’d only have seven years left if she didn’t change her diet, I really felt for her but then I thought – you bought this on yourself.
What did you think of the programme? Has it inspired you to change your diet or will your dislike of vegetables live on despite the warnings?

I am a mum of three children, I am devistated with the whole food and health thing. I am at a point were I do not know what to feed my children and also myself. We are vertually down to nothing because I dont know what to feed them. HELP! The programme was very informative well done Jamie carry on with what you are doing PEOPLE ARE LISTENING.
Being involved in encouraging parents to work with their toddlers in the kitchen, last night’s programme shocked me to the core. I know of all the obesity problems and the long term effects this can have but last night’s visual aids to show the effects were brilliant. Even though our diet is good, it’s going to be better. Bring on the smoothies!!
excellent program, is what is needed in this country before its too late, I have a big family and am one to buy cheap food prossed food, but not any more i would rather buy cheap baked beans, fruit and veg than feed my kids fat. Thank you look forward to more of the same.
I am a 53yr old mum of 2 grown up children I support jamie totally as I have 7free range chickens myselfbut only for the last 3 years.I only wish others had them too.I,m the old fashioned mum who even tho self employed MADE time to cook proper meals. Can i ask when jamie minced the carcass of chickens on his food show commenting that this was used for cheap processed food.Myself and my elder parents always boil it for good stock so how can it not be good .
I really enjoyed this show as it showed what we are really doing to our health by eating all this junk and fatty foods. It is healthy food for me from now on.Ps.Do you remember the recipe for the tomatoe sauce that jamie made on the show, i would love to have it, if anyone can give it to me.
hi liam,
I’m not entirely sure, but I think the sauce was some chopped garlic, maybe some shallots (I think?) chopped tomatoes, some seasoning and some fresh basil!
Easy!
