In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Chris Nolan revealed something that Batman fans won’t really be happy about. Talking about the film, Nolan said,
“Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is a tragic figure, and his story is the backbone of this film. The Joker, he sort of cuts through the film — he’s got no story arc, he’s just a force of nature tearing through. Heath has given an amazing performance in the role, it’s really extraordinary.”
This indicates that The Joker isn’t the main villain of the film, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. We’re still going to get to see a lot of the Joker and anyway, for those who’ve seen the IMAX prologue you’ll know that The Joker has already been introduced as the clown prince of crime.
What I think Nolan is saying is that in the film Harvey Dent will go from upstanding citizen to mega villain with The Joker causing havoc throughout Gotham. If this is true, although we’ve seen quite a bit from the film, we’ve not seen anything of two-face. So, really we’ve seen nothing much of the plot at all!
So, with Heath playing The Joker, Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face and Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow, we won’t be without action!
What do you think? Should The Joker be the main villain in the film?

I think that’s just speculation based off the quote. I know in the comics, the Joker never had an origin, and I think it would be a grave miscalculation to build this much hype over a character who isn’t really in the movie. If I had to bet, Harvey Dent’s story arc would probably be similar to the comic, “a long halloween”
