MacBook Air customers will want $99 external SuperDrive

MacBook Air external SuperDrive
As we reported to you today, the new Apple MacBook Air will not have an optical drive but instead customers will have the option of a $99 external SuperDrive which can be found on Apple’s Store here.

Even though you can backup with Apple’s Time Capsule and play movies by renting from iTunes, I still love an optical drive and bet that MacBook Air customers will as well.

So I would imagine the MacBook Air SuperDrive will sell like hot cakes, its’ features include ability to play and burn both CDs and DVDs, including double-layer DVDs, install software, fits easily into a travel bag and connects with a single USB cable.

Would you always want an optical drive?

Remember when apple stopped shipping floppy drives in their computers. The world cringed, it was too soon, you need a floppy drive! Then we found out that, actually, we didn’t really need it that much after all. I suspect the same will be said of optical drives before too long.
