Sony Blu-ray: current disc players not future-proof, apart from PS3

The Consumerist is reporting that “current Blu-ray disc players were built without future-compatibility capabilities”, with the news of BD Live coming in summer 2008 (the service featuring enhanced interactivity and internet connectivity) how will customers who brought Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic and Sony standalone Blu-ray players feel when they know their players may not support these new features.
Looks like Sony PS3 owners got the best deal again.
