Sony PS3 cell chip
Some may call the Sony PS3 a gaming system while others call it a high definition Blu-ray player, but not many expect the PS3’s cell chip to aid medical science.

This is IBM and the Mayo Clinic’s plans as they have teamed-up and are opening a research facility; the aim of the joint venture is to improve CT scans and other forms of medical imaging by using the power of the Playstation 3 Cell chip.

They will be able to create 3D images of a patient’s brains much faster, and compare the images to older scans in minutes instead of hours it took before…this improvement will surely save money and peoples life’s.

Actually people do expect it. It’s very well known that the Cell processors only purpose isn’t just the PS3. By now it’s been proven to perform very well for research purposes. It’s really a multi-purpose processor, designed for many things, and the first thing that they happened to put it in was a video game console.
