Tata Nano car
Following on from Peters post about industry comments sounding on Tata Motors Nano Car, we have heard a lot of feedback from people all around the world.

The world’s cheapest car “The Tata Nano” is making news everywhere, but could this car see the light of day in North America or Europe.

How safe is the Tata Nano compared to western automotives, would it pass our tests and even if it did then this car would surely put some of the big named car brands out of business.

Do you think the Tata Nano car could reach the US or Europe and would it be a good thing to shake up the auto industry?

Car has only 33hp. 0.6 litre engine. many parts not welded but glued together. 2cylinder. can hold only 8 gallons or roughly 400 miles in cities and 480 miles on highways in one fillup.

    Only very basic safety features.

    0-43mph in 14 seconds
    max speed - 60-65mph

Car can make a mark in the middle income markets if there is atleast 50% improvement.
To make a mark in US market, it wuld probably require 150% improvement and when gas prices hit $6/gallon… probably 5-6 years away.

Is there any chance to get the Nano here at Australia? If so, I will surely take a dealership.

    Hi,

If US citizen are allowed to ride on a motor cycle without ant safty! Why can’t they drive a NANO on the Freeway?

    Thanks

One should remember that NANO is people’s car and made for those who can’t even afford to buy Maruti 800 (Cheapest car available before NANO).

TATAs made History by bridging the price gap between Motor-cycle and Maturi 800.

If you look at past, when Indica was launched. At that time, indica was just appreciated very much for its design and look though Indica faced many trouble after launch. Later on TATA launch V2.

TATAs again made a History by making World’s cheapest car which is not only very good and elegant in design but also One of the most fuel efficient car and also meet meet EURO-4 norms.

I think, people will face Least troubles with NANO because TATAs has learned a lot from Indica.

This also shows that India is growing not only in One segment but also in All the segments and getting lot of appreciation around the world.

At zero to sixty in 25 sec. I doubt you’d ever see this car in the U.S.

I think it should be imported into the US as is and let the PEOPLE make thier own choices for once on what they buy…
BIG AUTO companies will be the biggest raod block to the USA ever seeing this car.

Can I just buy one and have it shipped here????

Those who know TATA [most Indians would], it is a name in India that is highly respected for the very high quality of its products, whether it is a Tata soap or the 12 ton heavy duty truck that it has been making for the last sixty years. Most people around the world do not know that the Tata Iron & Steel Company, founded in 1903 in Jamshedpur, India produces nearly 3 million tons of steel, and is the most efficient steel producer in the world. I am positive that though unbelievably inexpensive, the Tatas would not risk ruining their sterling reputation for quality and efficiency by launching something of this magnitude that will be “cheap.” The world would have to, however, wait and see if and how this car does outside India. It is, however, certain that if it does find its way outside India, it would take the world by storm.

first of all let us understand that TATA NANO is a product for the people who need it. Yes i am talking about people in India and other emerging markets where the motorcycle rider has to stop in the traffic signal under hot sun, or drive it on the highways under chilly rainy condition (5 deg C) with his wife behind and kids somehow accomodated somewhere within the bike. How are doing on safety here?? this car provides the basic shelter, a place to hide in from rain, provides shade from the unforgiving tropical sun and enough place to accomodate a small family. we are not talking about freaking Engine power or side crash safety or anything of that sort. i dont mind even if doesn’t satisfy european or US safety standards. i wish all those who needs this should be able to buy it. apart from that, people like me who just want to be transported from point A to B and can’t satisfy his driving ego with the affordable cars available (all of them are under powered, looks ugly and a big emotional compromise ) will definitely buy this car without any expectation and guilt. Hope they start selling it soon. i just can’t wait to see needy people driving it on roads.

After the launch in Indian market the car will available in US market 1st. But in Indian market the car is not coming till last 2008 due to some protest by West Bengal people. Now, the company is establishing its factory another place and will launch the car till 2009 in Indian market.

    Thanks
