Which ever drug you are addicted to, there could be an explanation why. Scientists are predicting that genetic factors could account for around 60% of each person’s addition and environmental factors could cover the other 40%.

Different studies have taken place over the last 30 years and they have identified a total of 1,500 addiction related genes. Scientists have been able to narrow down the genes from 1,500 to 396 by findings certain molecular pathways that lead to addiction; they are hoping that by finding the importance of these genes that make people more easily addicted they will be able to use more effective therapies.

I will admit that yes, I am a smoker, and yes I know I need to give up, I find it more of a social aspect to my smoking when I’m out with friends and in my local pub or club. I have however, cut down due to the bans that have been enforced in England, meaning that you can’t smoke inside public areas. I do put down my inability to quit to lack of will power, I have tried twice and failed, but hoping its third time lucky (this time I’m keeping it a secret from friends and family) when I try again.
