Xbox 360 Damage Control: Sony PS3’s name good from start
Following on from Marks post about Bill Gates wanting to make the Xbox 360 the most reliable console, I do not doubt he will make it much better but as I have had the RROD, many of my friends and family and even a blogger in the Joystiq network recently got the Red Ring of Death on a replacement 360…there is a long way to go.
So with replacements getting the RROD, would you not say the 360 has had its named damaged too much?
Many gamers have left the 360 for the Sony PS3, a games console that has had a great name from the start for its hardware (although the 360 chat options and dashboard are better).
With most companies heading the Blu-ray route and people buying the Sony PS3 for home entertainment and for gaming…its win win for the Playstation 3.
I would say a safe bet is that the PS3 is way ahead on odds for a long term win, the 360 would have to bring out its hardware all over again with maybe the rumored “Ultimate 360” to win…but what about the poor current 360 owners who have to have the old one.

2008 is definetly going ot be Sony’s BIG year..not that we needed to wait until now to accept that fact. 2007 was the stepping stone, now great things are here.
PS3 is taking 2008, bluray is taking 2008…the 360’s horrible 33% failure rate has destroyed it in every way, and hddvd is finally dead.
So far 2008 has been a great year for Sony.

Charles: 17.7 is shipped to stores not sold. and how many of those are replacements. there are 8.96 PS3 out there more than Xbox 360 sold its first year. and look world wide not just America. you have never touched a PS3 by you statements you probably never even seen on turned on. Ignore the’Faboy’rants and game preferences and it comes down to a few basic facts that run true for whatever piece of technology you buy: Quality of build and what it delivers. Sony produced a robust, reliable machine with built in Hi-Def in the form of the Blu-Ray, a reasonable hard drive and wire/less networking. These three come extra with most Xbox 360. You get what you pay for.
Microsoft has a poorly built box and not much more.
Apart from that it’s what games you like that make the difference.
The Wii cannot be compared, Comparing the PS3 to the Wii is like comparing the Ferrari with a dodgem car. The Wii is real fun to play with but it’s a different class of machine.
Yeah PS3 is going to sell a lot in 08 with got the best exclusives Xbox is dying hd dvd beaten by blu ray.
to the guy that posted 360s sales of 17.7 million sales well lets just compare 360 two years released has that number the ps3 has sold 8.9 million consoles wordwide now not that far behing considering came out a full year later and had no games until uncharted and ratchet so u wait to see how much ps3 sales jump over this year they will easilly sell 15 million consoles and overtake the 360

Most of us actually own both consoles. Sure RROD sucked…but so did the delays and lack of games..plus the lies Kutaragi told (for example….No rumble because it interferes with motion control while a $299 console by Nintendo proves that wrong). Or how about the developers publicly bitching about how impossible it is to develop for it?
The only real console that didnt have any problems besides availability is the Wii.
Xbox 360 is its own worst enemy, the reliability issues, the problems with Xbox live that are not resolved etc. The xbox 360 is a great system for games, but so many people have been burned by the quality. The PS3 has been out a year less then the 360, so of course MS has more games out for it. but that is changing. As Blu-ray has won teh format war, more and more people will be picking it up because it is also a superb Blu-ray player. And there is even a rumor of another price drop, maybe to Us$349 in the summer if the rumors are to be believed. For the value, you cant beat a PS3, and it is cheaper then a fully tricked out xbox 360. The wii? fun little system, but it has no real staying power.
I think the 360 has the best games (right now) and online service(you do have to pay though) The hardware does suck. I have returned a refurb myself and just got another. I would love to see an American Company do well in a area where the Japanese have dominated. They need to start ( by Aug 07 they have not) fixing the return systems properly. The window for the 360 will begin to close in the next 12-18 months as the PS3 begins to get alot more AAA titles and if MS does get there hardware issues under control (not just say they are) they will lose alot of gamers to PS3
I actually do not mind having both PS3 and Xbox 360. However, after being stung with RRoD issues within several days of a new xbox 360, I decided to stay away until when MS made more improvement and reduce the failure rate. I got a PS3 when I rtn my Xbox 360, it has served me well, although I think it is expensive. I used it primarily to watch movies with limited gaming utilization.
SONY have extensive testing in Production and in development that most Reliabilty and latent quality issues are dealt with promptly. MS have some learning curve in this Consumer Electronics area….

This is the advent of the internet, anyone can type up anything and make anything up. Listen, the PS3 as a gaming console, has been a complete an utter failure. Everybody knows that it was just a Trojan Horse for Blu Ray, and it looks like that’s working. So what? Should Blu Ray prevail, I don’t care what Microsoft says right now, but Microsoft WILL release its own line of add-on Blu Ray players at roughly the same price as its HD-DVD. “The Window for the 360 gbegin to lose in the next 12-18 months…” I don’t know how hard I’m suppose to laugh at that. With 17 million consoles sold to date, I don’t think developers are going to “close the window” on the 360 anytime soon. Hardware issues and all, I personally have never had problems with my 360 since I got it at launch. #1 reason it breaks is because players can’t stop playing. How can the PS3 break if there’s not even any games to play??? And even if I get this mythical “red ring of death,” I’m getting another 360. I’ll keep doing it because the 360 has the best games. BTW, in the next 12-18 months, the next Xbox will be announced. Hopefully, the PS3 will be viewed as a credible machine by that point. But I doubt it ever will.
lets do some basic math.. 17.7 SHIPPED, NOT SOLD, 33% failure means one out of 3 have had a 1st, 2nd or even 3rd replacement, so thats about 11 million sold in over 2 years. Sony has sold 8.9 in just over a year.. I pity the xbox fanboys who just cannot accept defeat

Why is it that every article that allows comments rapidly dumbs down into xbox360-v- PS3 fanboy rants? These infantile black/white arguments give all gamers a really bad press. We’re not doing ourselves any favours people. Lets all be a bit more honest with ourselves and each other.
Now I don’t know whether it’s 15 million shipped or sold, but does that really matter to the fact that some of us prefer one console over another. whether games look better on the 360 or the PS3 is a matter of opinion and the quality of the TV \ screen cable you use. Lets keep clear of personal insults based on ill-informed opinion.
Just because you have had one experience (of a good xbox) does not take away the fact that one in three machines have been sent back one or more times. The PS3 is a better built machine, the 360 has more games and a better online experience. But for the last year industry experts have been saying the PS3 will win the console wars but not by so large a margin as the PS2 did. Recent indications seem to be prooving this true. But so what?
If the 360 gets better built, then good luck to it, If the PS3 builds up a good library of games (I don’t give a gnats fart about exclusives) then wahey to Sony. In the end we the punters will decide what we like and Microsoft and Sony will milk us for every cent or penny they can get. So we are all in the same boat.
most of these xbox vs PS3 remarks are really childish. i cant say that i am a fan of the 360 although it is a good console. i do however agree that the PS3 has the potential to be the better console, to some it already is. seriously though after every article like this there is always suckers to start an argument. you should read your own comments and realise how much of a prat you are.
Let drop 360’s first year performance to begin with because the only People that bought it in the first year were the die hard dedicated original xbox owners. Lets start with the first xbox. What made the xbox a name was the mere fact the the graphics were better then the PS2. Even with the games that were shared it showed off the fact the xbox was superior graphically. On top of that was the next fact that the xbox let you play online and they did a good job of that. Now with the 360 you have the same thing happenig all over again. The laughable part about this is that 360 had a whole year start and the PS3 still does not do the graphics better. Devil may Cry 4 will have a 5 Gig download to stop downloading during the game is a pretty lame fact about your PS3. No rumble from the get go. They totally ignored the gamers just to push bluray. PS3 owners are pimped by Sony just like Bush pimps the USA. 360, Wii and the PS3 are suppose to be about games. Not the extra Bullshit. If your a gamer then the only two companies that care about that fact is Microsoft and Nintendo. That is why PS3 games are not better and that is why there is a lack of good games and and wanabe PNS Network. All of Sony ideas are copies of what Microsoft and Nindendo have already done. I’ll go for the Games any day over a PS3 Bluray Bulshit. I really only wished that Microsoft had included the HD-DVD in the 360 it would show that the real problem with Bluray is rediculous download time. One more thing that people need to understand is that WI-FI is not include because 360 strives on Online Gameplay. Hard wire beats Wi-Fi any day for online paly. Also you can’t connect to your computer with a Wi-Fi.
We use the PS3 about 20 hours for every 1 hour we use the 360. I have had the RROD4 times. I had to buy a used 360.

You have to remember, XBox360 was launched in 2005. Microsoft has already proved that they can not create a system that lasts longer then 1-2 years.
The XBox 360 is out dated and it is unreliable. For now, XBoxLIVE is 360’s only saving grace. Microsoft needs a completely new console if they want to compete with Playstation 3 in this new age of gaming.

Xbox “being so much better didn’t do better in sales. you cry about the software down load? are you serious? you have got o be kidding if i need to install some software to have little load time great. it is only once. I know you have to pay more for hard drive space than PS3 owners do but please. and also i know you haven’t seen a PS3 now on HDTV if you say graphics are better on a Xbox 360,(unless you like your games puking bright annoying colors at you all the time. ) and also frame rate issues have nothing to do with the PS3 (or the 360 for that matter) it is the software not the machine.
(Don’t know what Bush has to do with anything personally I will be very happy to see him gone) as far as it being a media center that is all the better, and no it was never designed to just play games. you really don’t get it do you? Mine does tons of things all the time not just play games but when ever i want it to it is ready and more than able. (try warhawk online and then you will say Halo who?) then when i am done picking off people it will go back to Protein folding. finding cures. and no over heating issues. by the way one of our games was over 22GB so yes blu-ray rocks you cant play a game that size or quality .

Everyone keeps talking about what system has better graphics. In reality they are pretty equal. The first 1 1/2 year there was no HDMI for the 360 so the comparisons were not fair. Gears of War shits on every PS3 game I have seen. My 360 did not have HDMI. Look at the systems now that they both have it. My best friend has both systems hooked up w/ HDMI cable made by monster to a Sony SXRD 1 of the best Televisions on the market. The 360 looks better 2 me. I have single handedly turned everyone of my friends N2 Xbox junkies. I did not buy the Playstation 2 cause I knew about the first xbox was on the way. Honestly I love both systems, they both are great. Microsoft just shot itself in the foot this go round due 2 a product that was pushed out 2 fast and everyone getting RROD. I went thru 5 systems in 2 1/2 months and that’s on everything(thank god I purchased a warrenty from Best Buy). I pawned it w/3 contollers and 4 games for $335. PS3 has an up on 360 due 2 blueray and bluetooth the processor is great, but 4 gaming not much better or better at all than 360. 360’s Gpu is 50% better than PS3. Trust me I know I have been reading the specs on both machines since 2004. With all this said I loved the 360 when I had it. I just got very tired of not being able 2 play due 2 malfunctions. I’ll get another when I know for sure the bugs are out. I will get a PS3 also. Only for the Bluray player. I think people should get all 3 systems they all have their own benefits. Christmas of 06 I stood in line for 14 hours(4 my daughter) 2 get Wii.It is a great system 2. When you have big gatherings the fun doesn’t stop.

Well, I’ve installed Linux on mine so it can act like a PC. If you want an innovation pissing match you’ll have to look elsewhere, I think the term is BS and Microsoft are one of its worst abusers. If you think nicking ideas from elsewhere and putting your name on it is innovation then fair enough.
Ok, for all you 360 fanboys out here. Think for a second, or maybe a minute. Windows, ZUNE, XBOX, XBOX 360. All the gadgets and software from microsoft are almost all crap. Firefox is better than windows, I pod is better than Zune, PS2 better than XBOX, PS3 better than 360. The only reason the 360 is doing “good” is because it had a one year head start. It ran on old hardware that everyone was familiar with. Not to mention, now that the PS3 is starting to inch its way toward to 360 territory. All of the 360 fan boys are shaking and up in arms trying to fight off the well built machine; the Ps3. The 360 fanboys don’t want their system to lose because they dont want to admit spending their hard earned money on a lousy piece of low quality machine. Give it time and the 360 fan boys will either have to admit defeat or commit suicide. The PS3 is almost guaranteed to win the blur-ray format war, its graphical capability is already shining with games like Drakes Fortune, UT3, Rachet and Clank, Heavenly Sword. PS3 will almost certainly win, its like comparing a 94 Honda Accord to a 94 Ford Taurus.

I’ve owned Atari 2500, NES, Genesis, Turbo Grafx, SNES, PSOne, PS2, XBOX, XBOX 360, N64, Game Cube, Wii along with a commodore 64 and a PC…and every one of those systems have had great games. Every one.
So, the only people that truly win are those who can play any game they want to without bias or prejudice and who can do so without acting like 3rd graders on a playground, calling each other names…and most of you have never played any games on the hardware you’re putting down…so why should anyone listen to you?

Ok there is Also one more thing about the bluray over microsoft hd dvd battle i personally don’t care about both formats but microsoft download is a much better deal because i just got educated on the price of these movies and regular dvd is expensive. do people really buy movies. what is the point once you’ve seen it are you really going to watch it again? i either go to the movies or rent or on demand. so digital distribution makes way more sense. i downloaded the condemned in HD the other day from xbox live and it looked great. the new formats are a waist of time and money
Charles,you sound rather ignorant. first of all, the 5gb installation of dmc4 onto the hdd is to eliminate any loading screens throughout the game.which the xbox360 couldn’t have because not all of xbox360s have hdd. So no,its not lame it’s actually pretty cool that you dont have loading times.And digital distribution is so far away from being publicly accepted.There are so many problems trying to have that as mainstream, for one, not everyone has a decent connection to download a full hd movie which holds very big sizes.HDDs, how many HD movies can you possibly download to a HDD, even if it is in terabytes, it would be too expensive for mainstream.AND not everyone is tech savvy enough to know how digital distribution works so to have digital distribution would sound very absurd to the average joe in our time.Sure you may not see the point in buying a movie. But
the blu-ray sales beg to differ and dont even get me started for dvd. and No wifi and ethernet would have absolutely no difference if there isnt any solid wall blocking the way even so,the ps3 also has an ethernet port whereas xbox360 doesn’t give you that option. you have to PAY for it.AND even with a wired connection.you still dont get dedicated servers and rely heavily on other user’s internet speed to get a decent game going on.AND you PAY FOR IT.the ps3 online,is free and it has dedicated servers.Sure it lacks the appeal compared to xbox live right now but at least it’s stable.And what stops it from growing?Face it,Microsoft nickle and dime their customers,hd dvd add-on,wifi,hdds,xbox live, sure i like the xbox360,but when you start bashing blindly like that,somebody ought to set you straight

Gamers are leaveing xbox because it was not the best console. Microsoft is stuped, i only say that because a guy like bill gates on your side, i expect the ultimate system. I was thinking this for last generaion and and up getting the xbox 1. Xbox 1 was crap and had no games. xbox 360 pushed out all it good exclusive in the begining this time so gamer would look at PS3 as a failure and now has nothing to show. PS3 is the boss and always has been. People were saying PS3 had no games but that was becasue they where hating on PS3 and other gam,ers wish ed they had it. PS3 had lots of good exclusive in it first year. Like resistence, motorstorm, ratchet future tools….., uncharted, warhawk, hevenly sword, and much more. It was almost competeing with xbox exclusives even though that was sopost to be 360’s strong year. 2008 for PS3 will pretty much be a repeat of the PS2 to the gamecube and xbox 1. PS3 is on top because it had and will have more and way better games. PS3 big exclusive nvr even came out yet and it still selling console and 2008 is now so stop saying next year. 2008 is this year.
O ya Charles, Downloading movies will not be the meothod of watch movies anytime soon, they would need to develop HD with 10 Tyra byits of space to even cosider it. movies and especially HD movies are really big and xbox 360 certainly isnt going to make that possible, the bigest HD u can get is 120gb. And blu-ray and HD dvd, xboxers care if HD dvd suck because it prove xbox chose the wrong formate and didnt even atempt to us HD for games. PS3 has use blu- ray for games and it has worked really well and blu- ray is makeing games way better and longer and better looking. If xbox 360 goes blu-ray to it shows they are imitator, and just copy. EVen the xbox 1 was a copy of dreamcast. Microsoft suckes and just copy. They copied HDMI port off PS3, They copied The home button of the PSP, and they copied the xbox 360 look for those old Dell PC’s. They even copied the contoller from the dreamcast controller. They are even considering haveing six axis controllers. microsoft just copies and they dont even do a good job at it.
