On Monday we saw the first episode of the TV show by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall that is a campaign for free range chickens. I watched this program and couldn’t believe the conditions in which the battery chickens are kept in. I knew they were bad, but its disgusting.

A lot more people buy these chicken 2 for £5 or 2 for £6, because it is an affordable way to feed your family, I have done it too! After seeing the way the chickens are processed (the only way I can put it), it has put me off.

For the past couple of months I have been getting fresh chickens from one of our local lads, they are absolutely delicious and some of them are the size of a Turkey, in fact we had chicken on Christmas day which was about the size of a turkey and it was a quarter of the price. We also buy eggs and they are a lot fresher than what you will get in the supermarket, and better tasting. Most importantly they are all FREE RANGE!

It’s worth trying to source someone who is local to your area and try it, you will taste the difference, the price may be more but it’s worth it.

I watched this program with my girlfriend and knew about battery hens for eggs, but never realised this was how chickens were treated, We have said we wont buy chicken unless its free range and a lot of our friends have said the same.

i was inspired by ur programme, it really makes u think about things. We use to raise our own chickens in our back garden it was great fun we had no waist and it gave us great satisfaction knowing where our eggs came from. Unfortunetly we had to get rid of them because of our neighbours we where very upset about this, and we hope one day we can buy bit land to raise more and live of the land. I have been in my own town and was disappointed to see just how many shops did not stock free range chickens, I work for tesco’s and have approached one of our manages to start getting more free range stock in.I know people r on tight budget so am i but i will only buy free range now if it means i have to buy all the chickens to keep them in store then so be it, it might incourage other customers to buy them hopefully. Good luck with ur campain lets hope the whole nation goes FREE RANGE.
