Bill Gates: Microsoft Xbox 360 will be the most reliable console out there

Xbox 360 RROD
Bill Gates had an interview with the BBC talking about the Microsoft Xbox 360; Bill Gates who is now retired had some really interesting thing to say about the Xbox 360. Many people know that there are problems with the 360 and that they are getting addressed to fix the problems.

Gates went on to admit that the Xbox 360 console has had its fair share of problems, Gates said and quote “We certainly had to apologize to our users about a number of boxes that had to be replaced,” referring to the costly warranty extension that was enacted in July of 2007. He further notes that Microsoft has received positive feedback about the Xbox service in the wake of its problems. He carried on to say, “we’ve got incredible reliability on the new work that we’ve done, and so our commitment is that it will be the most reliable video game box out there.”

My personal views as a gamer – For starters another blogger from the Joystiq network recently got the Red Ring of Death on a replacement 360 and that was even after one week after having received it, I do love the Xbox 360 as I do the PS3, so do not come here and banter and slag each console off, these are the facts of which I must say, why not build a gaming console from the start that works like the Sony PS3. Hopefully the Xbox 360 sorts itself out because gaming on it is good, especially online gaming. Oh and everyone knows that the Xbox 360 will break after a while, if you say it will not happen to you then I guess you live in a town with 2 people.

What a crock of shite!! Microsoft can’t make ANYTHING reliable, much less the 3shitty!! HAHAHA whatta joke, I dont know how Billy Gatesy expects us to believe this horseshit!!

  2. johnson on January 11th, 2008 12:45 pm

It WILL be “the most reliable” console? after two years in service– I THINK NOT!!! 2008 will be the year the 3shitty falls to the higher power! everyone needs to do as i and countless others have done– trade your 3shitty for a ps3.

You guys are the most ignorant bunch of losers I’ve ever seen.

Everyone who did their homework knows Sony manufactures their own consoles while Microsoft, being a software and not hardware company, pays other people to manufacture their consoles. This means that the xbox 360 hardware problems is not 100% Microsoft’s fault. Also, everyone knows that the xbox 360 on store shelves now are much more reliable.

“why not build a gaming console from the start that works like the Sony PS3?”

Because then game developers would have a tough time making inferior games. Having one RRoD on a launch console myself before getting the new Falcon Elite, the 360’s technology is superior, unfortunately the manufacturing pre-August 2007(probably child slaves in China) was not. However times have changed and people should buy the console that has the games they want to play.

Well the john and johnson if that is your real name without gates there wouldn’t be a computer would it. Even so, the 360 will become the most reliable console out there the Wii sucks and the PS3 sucks. 360 is like Windows XP starts off bad turns out good

    3shitty, there is some maturity,

that said MS is a software comp and they cant get that right. windows screws me over way too much with dodjy software acd regular crashes.

very few products are PS3 reliable in general. getting failure rate from 33% to less than 1% would be an impressive feat

What a load of bollocks! 360 and reliable shouldn’t be put in the same sentence, simple as that. I know one person who had 8 frickin replacements including the new so-called more reliable systems! PS3 is already reliable, with under 1% failure rate, and it’s only going to get better as they introduce 45nm chips and eventually a redesign (PS3 slim) to make it more efficient. M$ just rename your console to BreakboxPleaseFixMe. You’re not cut out to make good hardware. Now even your software, XBL that you’re so proud of has had problems for two straight weeks. You’re going down!

one why oh why did it not work 100% in the first place….gates yer messed up big time…

From the sound of your comments, i guess you kids are too young to remember what a piece of crap the PS1 & PS2 were when they came out so i’ll remind you,

    “Sony Settles PS2 Lawsuit”
    http://video-games.elliottback.com/2005/11/11/sony-settles-ps2-lawsuit/

they never even publicly admitted or applogized for the problem even though they ran a reduced cost repair or replacement scheme which they kept pretty quiet!

    PS1 Wikipedia,
“This series of machines had a reputation for CD drive problems—the optical pickup sled was made of thermoplastic, and eventually developed wear spots that moved the laser into a position where it was no longer parallel with the CD surface—a modification was made that replaced the sled with a die-cast one with hard nylon inserts, which corrected the problem.”

“With the early units, many gamers experienced skipping full-motion video or dreaded physical “ticking” noises coming from their PlayStations. The problem appears to have come from poorly placed vents leading to overheating in some environments—the plastic moldings inside the console would warp very slightly and create knock-on effects with the laser assembly. The solution was to ensure the console was sat on a surface which dissipated heat efficiently in a well vented area, or raise the unit up slightly by propping something at its edges. A common fix for already affected consoles was to turn the PlayStation sideways or upside-down (thereby using gravity to cancel the effects of the warped interior) although some gamers smacked the lid of the PlayStation to make a game load or work.”

So you fanboys can act like Sony have never had hardware problem in it’s life but the truth is last gen it was the PS2 that had the problems and it still sold 120 million, while the more powerful and reliable Xbox 1 only managed about 40 million, what’s more MS made good for their mistakes and that’s something Sony never did.

Here’s another example of how sony use vaporware to sell it’s hardware

    Gran Turismo 4 Mobile Cancelled?
The handheld version may officially be vaporware.

Microsoft should have made the 360 reliable in the first place, 33 percent failure rate is not acceptable. Why does it seem that everything that microsft churns out these days are all crap compared to other products of similarity. The IPOd VS ZUNE, APPLE VS WINDOWS VISTA, PS3 VS 360, Microsoft maps vs Google Maps, Microsoft search engine vs Google search, windows explorer vs fire fox. We all know which product is better, the question is when will the people at Microsft who creates all of the low grade stuff take their heads out of their asses and come out with something good and reliable instead of churning out shit products just to make a quick buck.

  12. Rorkimaru on January 12th, 2008 1:15 pm

Yeah i remember the problems with PS1 and PS2. i also remember complaining about them. that said the failure rate was never 360 bad. also they are hardly the most reliable machines thease days either.

The PS3 is the most reliable game console available. They stress tested it in conditions human beings can barely survive. it is solid.

while i agree the 360 will become more reliable it wont be more reliable than the PS3.

also you cant say the 360 is more reliabe because the other two suck. i disagree and would put 360 last but even if the PS3 was pure shite it would still be more reliable than the 360. the arguments that say the 360 will become more reliable are the worst i have ever heard

  13. Greg on January 12th, 2008 2:52 pm

Its funny that everyone knows that the 360 has had issues but the newer models now have far less.
Even 360 owner can admit the problems.

PS3 is not without problems just ask some of your PS3 love buddy’s on the PS3 site it seems they have as many problems as the 360, or you can ask my neighbor he had to send his PS3 back after 4 months.

So for all the Sony fanboys your system is breaking down in a few months time as well and you have no games worth playing!

  14. Hm on January 12th, 2008 11:21 pm

Hey! I don’t know where do you live, cause im in Barranquilla, Colombia in the EQUATOR and 98% humidity, have an Elite and it doesn`t has the 3shitty that u say. I don’t have air conditioner and im not kinda lucky…

  15. Hm on January 12th, 2008 11:24 pm

I aslo forgot to say that it’s almost in a cage. It’s inside a wooden type of furniture and very little ventilation…

  16. Anthony T on January 13th, 2008 9:26 am

Yeah. We all remember the hardware problems of the PS1 and PS2. PS2’s broke like glass, and the PS1 was a piece of shit to begin with. Sony finally got things right with the PS3. And even the PSP is well built!

Now onto the 360. I believe Microsoft contracted the wrong companies to build the 360. For one thing, they are using a cheap disc drive that causes games to be scratched whenever the system is bumped; the casing design does not allow for sufficient ventilation of the hardware inside it; and all the overheating causes the system to crash (overheating causes the “Red Ring of Death”).

  17. Rorkimaru on January 21st, 2008 1:45 am

“PS3 is not without problems just ask some of your PS3 love buddy’s on the PS3 site it seems they have as many problems as the 360″

Come on. even Bill Gates wouldnt say that. there are rare cases of PS3s breaking but not nearly as many as the 360. you will be hard pressed to find many people who agree the PS3 has as many hardware problems as the 360.
