$130 Mini Microwave: better if USB powered

By: Daniel Chubb | January 11, 2008 | 1 Comment

Mini Microwave

There is no doubt that microwaves have changed the way people eat forever, but the idea is to be able to fit the food in the microwave, something 10.5″x12″x10.” does not do that well.

This is the size of the Mini Microwave: which will easily heat up your instant coffee, but not much else.

We like the idea of a smaller microwave, but as a gadget fan it really needs to be USB powered.

USB only has 0.5 amps at 5 volts available. That's 2.5 Watts.

Even if someone came up with a 100 percent efficient 5 volt microwave with zero heat losses, it would take several hours to do anything useful.

E.g. 2.5 watts input to 100ml of water would take about 2.2 hours to raise the temperature by 50 degrees C, ignoring losses.
