Today was a big day for India’s biggest car maker as Reuters reports that Tata Motors showed their new Nano car at the 2008 Delhi Motor Show. The whole of the auto industry have been commenting on what is said to be the worlds cheapest car, the price of the Tata Nano has been priced at 100,000 rupees, that’s just $2,500.
Some of the comments that have been coming have been very positive, like how Tata has kept to their promise with the cheap price and the style of it as well. Many people also commented that there is a huge market for vehicles between motorcycles and a small car just like this.
Many people in the industry have also said that this is a piece of history, and that they are delighted that it is an Indian that chooses to lead the way.

Is about time to beat the monster car industry I’ll, I must have this one
this is nice chance in indian people.
i like it.
Hi all,
It is indeed a great achievement to make a car with such great looks and comfort for that meagre price…It is beyond doubt that it stands a great achievement for TATA motors.
Let us get to the other side of the story, the bottom of the facts…
1) One Lakh rupees is something which most of the Indians will not bother about with sharp increase in earnigs with a section of the Indians (Atleast 25 crore people in this country can afford this without a thought to get a car). If we assume that a family in general consists of 5 members, we can say that atleast 5 crore families in this range.
2) of the above 5 crore families, if we assume that hare are already having a car of some sort and will not be bothered to buy another car even if it costs just a lakh with good comforts. 2.5 crore families gone.
3) Now of these 2.5 crore, I will take off 1 crore as those who do not want to buy a car at all. we are left with 1.5 crore.
4) Of the 1.5 crore, even if we leave out .5 crore for various other reasons, we will have a min. of 1 crore people, who will be looking forward to buy this car…
5) Does India really have the roads to bear this load and sudden increase in vehicular population??
6) One simple question, if all the employees of TATA Consultancy services, get this car and come in that to Office, will TCS be able to show them enough parking space, at each of their offices?? It would be a herculean task.
7) It is true that everyone has a right to buy a car and no one can deny it…But before giving a boon, we should always check if that would become a bane in some other aspect.
This car will never see the light of day in North America unless some politicians get bribed. 1: it isnt safe enough to meet our standards and 2: It would put the Big 3 out of business because they are still stuck back in the 70’s with their land yachts guzzling gas like theres no end to it.
Pity.
