Gerry McCann and Madeline: I wish I hadn’t gone to the tapas bar

January 10, 2008 | Filed under News

Gerry McCann and Madeline
Like any father would be that has lost their child, Gerry McCann feels nothing but regret over his missing daughter Madeline McCann.

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Gerry used the words “I Wish” often and came from a man that was “Riddled with guilt.

Anorak reports that Gerry said “I wish I hadn’t gone to the tapas bar”; “I wish I’d have stayed in the apartment that night” and “I wish I’d stayed in the room when I checked on her five minutes longer”.

It’s the kind of statements that make any father feel deep emotion and sorry for Gerry and Kate…they have to live 24 hours a day wishing, but the truth needs to be found and what really happened to Madeline.

What are your thoughts about how Gerry and Kate McCann feel?

I as a parent under no circumstances would never of left my children alone in a foreign country. What were thay thinking. Recently on holiday a couple at the bar were doing the same thing. Although none of my business i felt compelled to voice my opinion, the mother soon went back to the room. How can people be nieve. In this strange world we live in never say it will not happen to me.
Its been so long, I think they have done all they can to get Madeleine back. Who know’s they may still be a chance, but one thing is for sure those parents should never of left their children alone, and the guilt they feel is their punishment.

Negligence for leaving 3 very young children on their own every night - at the very least!
But I feel that child’s fate took place with or without being left alone.
The chances of an abductor were very slim.
The chances of an accident happening were much higher.
If you can neglect your children this way, then you are more than able to lie as well, I believe.

I feel so very sad for this family. I wish somebody would step forward with any information about Madeline just so the family know. Not knowing will haunt them for the rest of their life. My step son died 5 years ago and autopsy could not determine what went wrong while undergoing a heart operation. (he was 2 at the time) Every day my husband and I ask ourselves what happened and the feeling of the unknown is at times unbearable so I understand where the Mccann’s anguish is coming from.
My god let this situation get resolved.

I think this has gone on long enough. DNA evidence is factual evidence. I believe( and these are my own thoughts and opinion) that when gerry last went to check on the kids, madeline was awake, woundt go back to sleep so he ‘forced’ her, hitting her head on the wall. he panicked and put her back into bed and went back to his socialising. when the next parent came to check, all they saw was the kids asleep. after all, they were only checking that they were there and not that they were in fact breathing. when kate and gerry returned to their room later, kate checked madeline and realised she was dead. gerry was forced to explain, they both panicked, how could they be guilty of such a crime considering their social status? gerry then put her body in his tennis bag and moved her to the car. they then ’staged’ the kidnap’ if this wasnt the case, why did it take so long for them to raise the alarm?? why was the car not checked that night? Why did Kate remain unquestioned for so long?….because she was a mother in shock - not at the disappearance of her daughter, but at the reality of what had just happened. and Why on earth would you set up a fund within days of her disappearance? what happens to the money if she isnt found? who gets it? the twins…who have trustees in gerry and kate therefore g & K would get the money? I think this has gone way beyond any admittance of guilt from them, they concocted a story, gerry set up the fund and the gerrys blog, who is so famous right now? Gerry Mccann. Thats who. Who has status, prowess and no financial worries because everyone feels sorry for them? I think it is time to extradite them, pass legal guardianship of the twins to a family member and make them realise what they have done. As far as I am concerned, Gerry comitted the crime, albeit accidental, but Kate stood by him over her own baby. it would have been best to admit it in the first place. I am sure they are wishing they had been honest from the start. In the meantime, a little girl could be floating around in heaven, lost, alone and wondering why she is there. Someone has to answer. And soon. I urge you, Gerry and Kate, it is only a matter of time before you are proved as liars to the world, free yourselves of the guilt before you lose everything, at least then your twins may grow to forgive you,the longer it takes, the less likely you are to ever see them again either as they will not want to be a part of your lives. I feel sickened and outraged at this case’s prolonged investigations to no accesptable avail. This poor child. the poor family. If I am wrong, then I am sorry. If I am right, then you should be ashamed.

I wonder why Gerry McCann thinks that they did not do anything negligent when they decided to go to dinner night after night and leave three babies alone for hours - I cannot understand why he thinks they did nothing wrong?
If they had not gone to dinner with friends they would still have their lovely little daughter with them?
How does he cope with the knowledge that she could be in the hands of some evil, vile person who will do dreadful things to her, maybe even kill after they have finished with her?
You may well be sorry for your irresponsible
actions, but they were never the less irresponsible decisions which you made, you cannot get away from that fact.
Is it true that in this Country is is legal to leave young children alone? I find this very hard to believe, and would never have done this myself or condoned anyone else doing so.
It would be nice and certainly beneficial to hear that they realised that they made a dreadful mistake, even it was with good intentions or ignorance of the dangers which stalk our daily lives - Perhaps then the public would forgive them.

    Kathy -

You are an idiot, concocting your own fanatasy of what you THINK happened. It makes no sense at all…they didn’t even have the car until 25 days LATER. Go back to your soap opera watching and stay out of detective work…nothing you have stated is based on fact.

Society becomes so judgemental and unsympathic when people make mistakes. As if we all don’t make mistakes of some kind. We should thank God that mistakes we’ve made, haven’t ruined our lives. And if you haven’t made a mistake, then thank God that you’re so perfect. “The guilt they feel is their punishment”(Suzanne). No Suzanne their punishment is that they don’t have their baby, and that people that have no vested interest in this situation will judge and openly attack them. Let’s pray for these people and be thankful that some of our “brain fart moments” have never cost us our love ones.

  9. marilyn on January 15th, 2008 3:57 pm

We as society should not give up hope cause someone knows what has happened to little Maddie,as for the parents they will punish themselves forever for leaving those children alone that night. However I dont believe Kate or Gerry were involved.I ask myself where are all those people who say they can help solve murders etc,why does nobody know where Madeline is.
PLEASE,PLEASE someone help bring this child home safe asap.

Society does become judgemental and un-sympathetic when we make mistakes. And [Tameka]who is god anyway, What god would allow this to happen. Then after the fact they left the other children in the babysitting, would we not be a little overprotective after the other child disapeared. Also perhaps they should of used this service the night they went out for dinner. Yes we all make mistakes, and we hope we learn from them. But leaving your children alone is not a mistake it damn stupid….especially for two professionals.

  11. Suzy on January 16th, 2008 1:44 pm

    Suzanne -

Society can be judgemental and coming from the US I could not fathom leaving my children alone, especially since it is illegal here. If you leave your children alone you are arrested and the children taken away. However, I have come to understand that in other countries this is considered perfectly normal and not a crime. That being said, it would appear a safe situation given a society that has not portrayed it in any other way to its citizens. As for leaving the twins in babysitting, I’m sure that Kate and Gerry were given much assurance that they would be looked after with hawk’s eyes. Obviously it would be very difficult to watch after two 2 year olds while you are devastated, consumed with the task of finding your missing child and spending much of the day meeting with police.

P.S. - As for making mistakes, “should of” is gramatically incorrect. You “should have” written “should’ve” (abbreviation for should have. But since you don’t believe in mistakes I guess you’re just “damn stupid”.

  12. suzanne on January 20th, 2008 7:58 pm

    SUZY,
b 4 i start id like 2 say my spellins shit, I b in the USA, born in England so wa me kid and me digs are practically round the corner from you (Maybe you vite me 4 coffey] Translate this Biatch! You seem angry Suzy.
The Mccann’s were damn stupid and as for perfectly normal to leave your kids is absurd. Common sense tells you not to do this, but this is the result of text book smart individuals.

  13. Suzy on January 21st, 2008 11:46 am

    Suzanne,

You seem to confuse anger for intelligence but it is clear, from your post, that you have no experience with intelligence so that is to be understood. As I said, while it would not seem perfectly normal to me, it is apparent that it is perfect normal in other societies. If you were to step outside your tiny little box you might see the actions in the correct context. In those societies that have portrayed such actions to be criminal Gerry and Kate’s actions are perceived as just that, in Gerry and Kate’s society however, it had been perceived as the norm and thus their actions translate into a mistake using extremely poor judgement. I realize, Suzanne, that much of this is probably beyond your level of thinking but mine is to educate, not judge.
