Charlie Wilson’s War Premieres In London: Tom Hanks Shows Support For Aston Villa

Tom Hanks was in London on Wednesday night at the premiere of his latest movie, Charlie Wilson’s War. Walking the red carpet without his co-stars Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman, Hanks had to find a way to keep warm - unfortunately he chose an Aston Villa Scarf!

Hanks was in cheerful spirits, despite being in the cold London air on his own. When asked how he felt about playing such a playboy he said,

“That’s the great thing about being an actor. You play a character you have a little bit in common with or absolutely nothing in common with. I’ve been in hot tubs with naked ladies, but they were my baby daughter and my wife.

“Charlie was actually around quite a bit. He was there in Morocco and he was also on the set and he never had any qualms about how we should portray him, he just said ‘Don’t worry about showing me doing anything bad because chances are I did it.”

So, has Hanks ever been enticed into the playboy lifestyle? “I’ve never been a playboy - I’ve never had a taste for the life,” he answered.

Now, since Hanks’ movie is politics-based, it would be rude to not ask him who he’s backing in the Presidential election back in his home country. He didn’t say who he was backing, but he commented on how he would change the US election process,

“I wish we did it like you guys do it here. Y’know, somebody says I quit and you have an election like three days later. We have to live with this for another ten months.”

Make sure you catch Charlie Wilson’s War when it hits theatres on Friday, January 11th. Don’t let the fact that the leading man is a Villa supporter put you off!
