It has been reported that Paul Bettany has joined that cast of Fox Searchlight’s new film The Secret Life of Bees. He will play T. Ray Owens, a widower and father of the film’s central character, a 14 year old girl played by Dakota Fanning.
The film is being directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and will being shooting this week in North Carolina. The script was written by Prince-Bythewood and is based on the novel by Sue Monk Kidd.
Paul Bettany is the latest addition to a cast which already includes Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Sophie Okonedo and Tristan Wilds.
The film follows the story of Lily (Fanning) and her friend Rosaleen (Hudson) who leave their town to escape their harsh upbringing and try to uncover the mysteries of Lily’s late mother. They are then taken in by three sisters (Latifah, Okonedo and Keys) who teach them how to keep bees.
