Guillermo Del Toro To Direct Harry Potter 7?

Best film news of the day alert! Guillermo Del Toro has expressed his interest in directing the final installment of the Harry Potter movie series. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be the seventh film in the franchise and if Del Toro signs on to direct it means that Harry Potter can go out with a bang!

Speaking to MTV, Del Toro said, I’m definitely interested [in directing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows], now that the movies have grown darker. They have a contrast between the gloomy existence of the kid and the world he’s exposed to. They have evolved into a really nice universe.”

It’s a little known fact that Del Toro was once set to direct Prisoner of Azkaban but the job went to Aldonso Cuaron in the end. Speaking of the book, the director says, “I got it for my daughter and she was like ‘When are you going to give it to me? I read it and I was very moved by the ending. It ends very much like a Dickens novel”.

I think you can probably tell by now that I’m just a little bit excited about this. I just hope that Warner Bros. take heed of this statement and seriously consider it. Harry Potter has the depth and darkness that Del Toro thrives on so with this director at the helm, the last Harry Potter film could be the best!
