Scientologists May Sue Over New Tom Cruise Book

It has been reported that Scientology leaders are considering legal action against the publisher of a new biography of Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography is by Andrew Morton.

The book is due to go one sale in the USA on January 15, though there are currently no plans to publish in the UK where libel laws are much stronger.

Andrew Morton claims that Scientology has taken over Cruise’s life while the church takes every step to keep the actor happy. It apparently compares the birth of Suri, his daughter with Katie Holmes, to that of the Devil’s child in the film Rosemary’s Baby.

According to the paper, several claims have angered the church’s leaders and they may be drawing up a lawsuit.

Bert Fields, who is Tom’s lawyer, said all the claims were strongly denied. He said that “It’s not being published in England. The American publishers criticised the libel laws in Britain because they require an author to tell the truth. Well, thank God for the British libel laws. [Cruise] has been told about it and naturally he knows there are a bunch of lies about him. You can imagine what it must be like to have someone compare your baby girl to Rosemary’s Baby. Morton should be ashamed of himself.”
