Detectives in Madeleine McCann case have enough proof to charge parents

Detectives in Madeleine McCann

Gerry and Kate (the parents of Madeleine McCann) are now aware that the Portuguese detectives believe they have enough proof to charge them; they are planning to travel back to the UK to grill the couple and seven holiday pals.

Although there are many mixed views about what has really happened to Madeleine McCann, it seems that Gerry and Kate McCann could be charged.

The Sunday Mail has reported today that a police source said: “Most of the elements of proof have already been collected. We just want to reconfirm the statements made by the McCanns and their friends.

What do you think about the so called “pact of silence” made by the holiday group?

What I am most interested in is an objective and independent police investigation. Instead what I see are a lot of smears and inuendos against parents who are grieving for a lost child. Look at how you report a ‘pact of silence’. There is none. Shame on you.

I don’t know who these people think they’ve been trying to fool with their lies, deceit, inconsistent statement and fraudulent fund. They should be charged… and so should the Tapas 9. So should Clarence Mitchell. They’ve all been perverting the course of justice and the only justice that’s being perverted is that of a little girl called Maddie – who is their daughter. They are despicable.

  • P Evans

I would rather believe the actions of the police than the actions of the McCanns.
The police seem firmly convinced in their guilt!
How on earth can police suspects be allowed to carry on in the way these people do?
I hope it all comes to court and justice is done.

This has indeed been a long time coming, but no one should be surprised that the residue and fluid test results, collected by the UK/PT investigative team and tested by the B’ham FSS, seem to have finally come into play.

We must thank the police for allowing the family time to celebrate the holiday season with their family and friends before continuing with the investigation.

    Hallelujah! A long time coming!

These people have been helped for so long by their Media friends it defies belief.
    Why one must ask ?
What happened to the Free Press, it seems to have been bought and Manipulated.

Well then what the hell took so long?

Thank the police? This is a joke, the police have behaved like complete amateurs, they didn’t even seal the scene of the crime, I don’t trust them at all.

I prefer to see the big picture and not be led by the nose by the gutter press and an inept police force.

  • Rebecca

The Portugese police are idiots and still wanting to cause harm to this family. They botched the investigation so badly and still feel no remorse for doing so. They prbably cost the little girl her life by not beleiving the parents and in her abduction. They never really searched for her. The corruption in Portugal is immense and they have no idea what to do other than focus on the parents. If she’d gone missing in the states or the UK, this case would have gone entirely different possibly finding her quickly. Their secrecy laws and archaic ways have no business being in a missing child case. Shame on the Portugal police for not caring more about this little girl’s life and for not being more up to date on how to investigate a missing child case. They need to exit and let others who are competent take over.

  • Christopher Bennett

I accept that all must be considered innocent until proved guilty.

I also accept that leaving three children under the age of 3 years in a foreign country (and no disrespect to the Portuguese)whilst there were facilities available to ensure their safety, was (for two professional people) an act of gross incompetence. At the very least, and at the end of the day, an example must be set.
We are told that the strict secrecy laws prevents potential suspects from speaking. Can someone please explain why, Clarence Mitchel, is continuously allowed to utter the McCann’s words on a regular basis via the media? this approach appears to be making a laughing stock of the legal process and I would suggest that Mr Mitchell, the McCann’s mouth piece must be breaking the law. Is there any truth in my assertions?

  • Diana

“A police source said”, “Sources close to the investigation”, “A witness who preferred to remain anonymous”. And so on… for ever and ever. No official statement. Another fiction of the banana PJ or Correio da Manha! Pj not even know what crime charges against McCanns!

Has anyone ever looked at seriously Madeleine?
    Poor little baby.

  • Anne Peverett

I hope this will just prove that there is no case and the Portugese have to drop it.

I do not believe any pair could have carried on this way if they were guilty.
There would have been a lot more drama played etc etc.

Whoever took Madeline owes it not to the McCanns but the public we all want to know Madeleine is safe.

In my heart of hearts like the other portugese blunder there is a guilty person in the police doing this. God will be your judge!!!!

This has gone far enough but then it has for all those children who fall pray to theft by some people who cannot even see justice to give them back.

That is the worst crime no remorse or anything.

If Kate and Gerry read this, I know you did the wrong thing and want the clock turned back. What you have done is highlight one of the worst nightmares any parent could have if they do not look after their own offspring with care.

Whoever you are on behalf of the public give us the joy we all want.

Those blaming the McCanns just want a bad story to end too and once found wrong as they have given time Love and Hate will prevail as it is so close.

She’s still alive, I bet. But I think her mother or father knows where she is as well.

Recently while in New York I read of a woman who was arrested for leaving two of her young children unattended while she went out celebrating the New Year, tragically a fire broke out and they lost their lives. She has now been charged with their deaths.

Here in Hong Kong a couple left their children while they went out gambling – they have been subsequently been arrested, and their children have been taken into care…the Social Services response is that ultimately it is the parents responsiblity not to leave their children home alone.

The risk is high, and ultimately one cannot blame the police, or anyone else for not being able to find this child- we do not know she was abducted- no ransom note or evidence of an intruder. Their campaign has always focused on ‘ looking for Madeline’ – it almost sounds a catch phrase rather than any true attempt to seek her out.

It is audacious for any parent to criticise or hold anoyne else accountable for their actions – it is not alright to leave children to fend for themselves. If anything, one should be humble and eternally grateful and relieved, for if they had been in New York or Hong Kong they would still be incarcerated.

  • lucy

This seems to have turned into a soap – it is real life.
I do not for one minute believe Mr and Mrs McCann harmed their daugher. There is more and more evidence coming out that there were undesirable people lurking around the area around the time she went missing. To me it says she was abducted and why all the attention is on the parents when this kind of information has come out seems strange. Yes, they shouldn’t have left the kids asleep in the apartment but it is done and they certainly don’t seem like bad parents to me.

  • Amanda

What ever happened about what DR. o` Brien said: that thEY knew sometHing was going to happen, but they never expected this would have happened. Why, what happened in that week before she was abducted? Did they know that somebody is watching them or did someting else happen as well? We, the world would like to know what he meant by that!!

  • mary

    Dear Rebecca
it was not the portuguese police that should have taken care of Madeleine…. her parents should have done that and DID NOT…SHAME ON THE MCCANS
    dont u think????
at the end we will see who the idiots are!!!!!!!

  • Jacky Hughes

This all seems to be trial by media. How on earth do papers report before the fact. How is it they get Police leaks from a country where it is illegal to leak information about an investigation to the press.

The Mccanns made a terrible mistake.

About the only facts we have is that the Mccann’s are doctors and that Madeleine is missing.

It is totally wrong of anyone to say what happened without hard factual evidence.

We have been repeatedly told but by the media that the evidence is flawed. It may be and it may not be because all we have IS the media.

I don’t think they killed Madeleine. I do think not enough time has been spent by police searching for this poor child. For all anyone knows she could have wandeered off to find her parents through the reportedly unlocked doors and have met with an accident – but that does not pre-suppose that the parents know what accident that is. She COULD have been abducted and the parents in denial. I somehow am not so convinced they killed her. Why make it so public? Why not destroy the diary and cuddle cat?

My thought is the Mccanns not really knowing how this would be percieved used the media because they did have the contacts.

There is not a single thing in this investigation that makes sense.

I have wondered if the Portugese Police have a problem to cover up in that maybe this investigation has a potential to cover up corruption – but that is pure speculation. Nothing but nothing adds up.

Until there is proof one way or the other nobody should accuse the Mccanns, or anyone else. It is not clear what happened. To have to live with having left their child and her disapearing if that is what happened must be unbearable.

To accuse them wrongly would be terrible.

  • Pedro Silva

I just have to say this: instead of blaming the McCanns, let´s all show our support to them, let´s stop all kudicrous and unhelpful comments, and let´s only focus on the main purpose: to find Madeleine and to bring her home safe and sound. One other thing:To John,of course she is still alive (nothing proves otherwise thank God) but, John, think about this: you say that both her parents knows where she is as well, have you ever thought that if the McCanns really where she could be, I´m sure that they were already told to M3 or the police to return her safely back to her family. I agree with Lucy,Linda Jane and Steven. To those who are saying the McCanns are guilty, I say: who are you people to say that statement. Have a heart, stop all those foolish statements and speculation and help in the search for this little girl who is alive out there, waiting to return to her home safe and sound.

  • lucy

Well said Pedro and Jacky. All humanity seems to have left people. I have seen some really hideous things said about this family on the internet and quite honestly it says more about the person who writes vitriolic comments than it does about the McCanns.
I have no doubt in my mind they are innocent and I hope Madeleine is home soon as I also instinctively feel she is still alive somewhere.

  • maz

If the police have enough evidence to charge the McCanns, why don’t they get on and do it, let the poor scapegoat, Mr Murat, off the hook and put us all out of our misery?

  • Leslie

I agree with Steven, if not for the irresponsible reporting, the public would not even think there was a ‘pact of silence’. How ridiculous. The Mccanns and their friends are unable to discuss the events of Madeleine’s disappearance for legal reasons and to protect the ‘integrity’ of the investigation and the media jump on them like they are hiding something. Where is the compassion for this family who has lost their child?

  • Marilyn in Texas USA

These folks are getting beat up by bad bad bad police work.
    What a bunch of crap.
The McCanns are innocent and need to be left alone to heal and go raise their other two children.
    My BEST to the McCanns.
Police ned to work on their system, improve their government, cleab up their pittiful act.

Those you thik the Mcann’s are guilty are dispicable, your pathetic flimsy opions disgust me.

Whilst it was foolish of them to leave their children alone, I certianly would not leave my children alone for a second, to go as far as to say they harmed or killed their daughter is a digusting and insensetive allegation to make. These are parets who made a foolish mistake and were lulled into a fasle sense of security, sadly they are paying an awful price its something they have to deal with every day.

Those of you who are accusing these parents of such a terrible thing, should read the news it actually said that the FSS discussed how badly sampled were preserved lack of sealing of the crime scene and the contamination of the evidence. They clearly discuss that portuguese officers did not preserve eidence and in fact left their prints all over the apartment, which is a joke, forensics should wear gloves and overshoes to prevent this contamination. Thats combined with the fact that there was so little DNA it is hard to get conclusive evidence with what little they had. The so called sources for the portuguese authorities are never confirmed by the portuguese and they dicredit themselves you cannot tlak n terms of a precentage of accuracy. I have a degree in Physics and have studied biology and chemistry so I know thta we do not dicuss percentage of accuracy. The onl;y credible information we have had so far is from the small snippets thta we get from british sources. Senior british investigators have also discussed the shoddy work of the portuguese detectives and how they have jeopordised their so called investigation with the contamination the lak of statements. What kind of detectives do not have a registered translator an instead allow an ex british patriot to translate n such a sensetive case when he himself is a suspect, that is suspect in itself. They id not take proper written statements and discounted information given by witneses before the investigation ot off the ground that is not proper police work that is a cover up. The truth is there are too many witnesses who saw murat and his suspicious behaviour for him to have not been involved. Nine witnesses and one is a lawyer, several have young families of their own and they all saw the same man acting susspiciosuly. Thats a lot of witnesses many of whom are nothing to do with the mcann group. There is one common factor that shows up and that is the portuguese refused to take statements or did not follow up on the statements given. It does not look good for them that their previous officer in charge tortured awoman into a false confession the truth is they are ametuers who cannot do their jobs and are more interested in coverin it up. The sad fact is that the portuguegse do not want to accept that they may have a peodeophile or a ring in their country because it will damage their tourist tarde but while they bury their heads in the sand it leaves opportunity for this kind of case to occur again. Lets just hope they manage to ind madeleine and return her safey home. There is doubt her parents love her and she belongs at home.

Believe the police??? Hum, now there’s a concept! Usually, I would agree, but not so much in this case. If they hadn’t botched it from the beginning, their evidence would probably be more substantial. Did the parents do it? I don’t know. But I DO KNOW that there’s not really enough evidence to prove it. Which means there’s a little girl out there who is a victim and the police aren’t looking for her because they “think” they have a suspect!! Sad. Really, really sad.

  • P C Plodders

I tend to trust the police in these matters rather than ill-informed members of the public or the sensationalist media. If they have evidence and can attempt to prove it then let’s get it put to bed either way.

  • Rebecca

No, the Portuges Police let Madeleine down, big time! They never believed she was missing and never took looking for her seriously. They still don’t. They are corrupt and don’t care. They have no clue as to how to investigate this case properly, so they just keep on blaming the parents..same old, same old. They are incompetent and probably cost this little girl her life. It is a horrible shame that police somewhere would be so awful as to let a little girl down by not even searching for her like they needed to. Baffoons. The parents made a huge mistake leaving the kids alone, but they aren’t the criminals here. The Portugal police are causing terrible harm and need to shut up at this point and let competent police investigators take over. If I had a missing child and the police treated my child’s missing like the Portugal police have, I’d sue them until there was no tomorrow.

  • Mary Smith

I feel certain they did not kill Madeleine. They are however guilty of neglect. A red flag for me was going out “drinking”
Has anyone substantiated the 14 bottles/night claim? Can you imagine leaving 3 babies alone while you went out DRINKING?

Yes, things could have not been but if’s and an’s as well as what could have been will not help now.

I have seen a tremendous change over the days/ weeks and what is now well over a month affect Kate and Gerry.

Madeleine could also be watching and I admire them for continuing their search in a dignified way.

I do not think being proffessionals help as they must feel the guilt grief blame horror and despair.

They hopefully will be able to recover from this when Madeleine comes home. Please God I pray you will look after her and give the whole family peace and unconditional love.

My ANGER is on the person who took the child. WHY?
Where? When ? what ? How could you have done this ?

Really get help a little girl is not a toy and you need to grow up and find other ways to help as it is really abnormal to take another persons child.
    It breaks all religious commandments.
Covetting, stealing, envying, not loving the other person as yourself would you like your most prized possesion taken away.

Get help we cannot do anything to you but be aware you stand judgment at the face of what you have done.

You know who you are and if reading this, be as clever as you were to take her and leave her where she can go and be recovered quickly.

    Just Give her back.

Be good be kind and most of all save yourself.

I don’t want her dead but it would be better to have her than have nothing. God will have her in his hands and keep her for Gerry.

    Please.

  • Heather

This family has been through enough! It’s obvious the child was kidnapped! I worry they’re being framed. If this had happened in a country where the police know how to deal with these cases Madeleine would be found by now.

  • Vicky Batley

WE only have the McCanns word that the PJ botched the investigation – why would they want you to think that, I do wonder!!!

2 facts in this case – Madeleine is missing and there are 3 arguidos.

    Everything else is just speculation.

  • Rebecca

The Portugal police are scary. Very corrupt and crazy folks. Just very sad this happened in Portugal. Wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Little child never had a chance in a country that has such backward ways. Always hope she still might be found alive and that the parents fight like heck against all the nonsense. Why aren’t the police concerned at all about finding who might have taken her? They sure don’t seem in any hurry with that. Just crazy…..

  • Rebecca

Other police have talked about how the PJ botched this case. The media talks about it. Anyone who knows what the proticol for finding a missing child is, knows how they botched this case. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand that the Portugal police don’t know at all what they are doing. Inept and corrupt…sad Madeleiene is in the middle of all it.

  • c donnel

KATE AND GERRY MCCANN ARE INNOCENT. I think this is a big cover up and someone within the Portuguese police has had something to do with Madeleine’s disappearance. The only ctv camera in the area was broken 2 weeks earlier. Someone must have seen something or given out information on the McCann’s movements from the hotel they were staying at. The McCann’s were definitely being watched by someone very closely. Someone doesn’t just walk along the street and break into an apartment and steal a child without surveying the situation. They keep pointing the finger at the McCann’s which is absolutely ridiculous and the only other suspect has been 1 British citizen and now his girlfriend. I think it’s high time British authorities and government took full control of this investigation. I think the British authorities should be interrogating all hotel workers / police and searching every single home in the area and surrounding.

  • Jane

We are informed that the Leicestershire police force and the FSS have been involved from the investigation from the beginning; are they too complicit in the plot to frame the McCanns? Does anybody know if the rumours that the McCanns were allowed to return to Britain because they might be tried here is true? The Portuguese have not released any details but the news is constantly in our papers; another paper is saying that the parents are going to sell the story to a film company is this true? Finally did the Mccanns through Metedo promise that Madeleine be home by Christmas? Its all very confusing.

  • http://none E Tong

The McCann’s have openly stated that they have had nothing to do with the disappearance of their daughter- well I beg to differ and would suggest that they and the ‘Tapas 9′ have EVERYTHING to do with her being ‘missing’ from the beginning, by using such an incompetent and unsafe way to check on their children. They offer no protection, nor care for these defenseless beings and are the MAJOR cause of her loss. To state that the police were ‘bloody slow’ as Kate McCann voiced is arrogance, beyond belief, and for her husband to say ‘they’ had been watching- who are these individuals they are referring to? Why are they not being asked more specific and probing questions? McCann is critical the PJ’s did not seal off the ‘crime’ scene well what crime is it he is referring to? Have they actually shown the slightest move towards really ‘looking’ for their own daughter, all we see is images of handing out posters, walking on the beach, jogging, laughing about family histories- it is incomprehensible behavior to me as a parent.
I don’t want to hear they are putting on a brave face for the sake of their other children; it is not normal behavior for any parent whose child has gone missing, let alone ‘abducted’. Please can any parent who reads this say that they would behave the same way – rather would you not be walking the streets, knocking door to door, screaming for your child, driving your car around endlessly looking for signs, clues as to where she could have gone, certainly would you not be the least apologetic to police for leaving your child (ren) unattended?, This is not a Hollywood movie- this is the actions of my parents, when I disappeared for a day as a young child.

By crying ‘abductor’ the McCann’s have diffused any criticism of their actions of negligent behavior. My grief is for the child, this poor innocent girl – her nightmare is that no one was home to protect them – and if we believe the neighbor she cried incessantly for them. What were her nightmares, her traumas? If it takes ‘a second- a window of opportunity’ for someone to come into the flat knowing McCann had just been there if we are to understand Kate’s comment- then leaving them alone for at least half an hour at a time is unforgivable, under the circumstances, and my heart and sympathy is only for Madeline and all children who we read about everyday who are left alone while there parents are celebrating, gambling, or try to teach them a lesson in some sadistic way and frighten them more than they can possible deserve by leaving them alone to fend for themselves.

  • Jane

But isn’t it true that the Leicester police and the FSS have been in contact with the pj all along and have had contact through the ongoing investigation and its them that sent their sniffer dogs keela and meddie(?) sorry I cant remember the other one. Also weren’t our police responsible for sending telecommunications experts to Portugal?
Also all the media coverage comes through Mr Mitchell as the strict secrecy laws mean you would face the sack if you talked to the press? This was the real reason that the first detective in charge was moved wasn’t he? He was only spared the sack because he thought he was making a private remark and had no idea that a reporter was present. All the British X policeman that have talked about the pj investigation are in fact available to hire as media consultants aren’t they? THe one mark thomas (?) was he actually on record as saying he was working as a consultant for the mccanns? If that’s true then all the stories in the press originate from the mccanns- but thats allowed cause there guy Mitchell works in government?

  • DW

If the laws of physics and probability apply in Portugal then the simplest explanation accounting for the two (and much else) is child medical accident and the victim (apparently well at 8.20pm) moved upon discovery of death to immediately adjacent apartment at or about 9.10pm by the male parent and possibly an occupant of that neighbouring apartment. There is no need for the female parent to be aware of this well advised, instant and easily realised plan. The police have likely got the situation back to front and upside down, trying to work out a sequence involving the mother – maybe one day they’ll wake up, slap their foreheads and amaze us all yet. If the principals were not doctors, I hazard that the tragedy (if there were one) would have been reported instantly. But the actors would have been looking at instant total ruin and only one way out.
