According to Canada.com, it has been reported that Martina Hingis the former world’s number one tennis player has been suspended for 2 years by the International Tennis Federation. Hingis retired from tennis back in November after the player tested positive for cocaine.

It seems that the ITF will also forfeit her ranking points from the 2007 Wimbledon championships; also her $129,481 prize money from Wimbledon will also have to be forfeited. Martina Hingis always maintained that she did not take cocaine, but back in November when she tested positive she said that she does not wish to spend many years trying to prove her innocence.
This news will come as a sad shock to Martina’s thousands of fans, and if it is true about her it sends the wrong message to young people who are trying to make it in tennis.
