Hands on with Boxing Grannies: for quick boredom breaks

When I first met Edna and Doris they were racing each other as “Racing Grannies”, and then we met “Speeding Grandads” and “Fighting Grandads”, but today we had a chance to get a hands-on with the “Boxing Grannies”.

Although it’s nice to have some battery power in gadgets/toys like these, the lack of batteries in the Boxing Grannies is also a benefit meaning one toy that will not keep running out of power.

The Boxing Grannies are powered by a helping hand and a little time, the biggest downside we found was the amount of time we spent using them before getting bored.

Having the Boxing Grannies on our desk for over a week as a test showed that we used them for many quick boredom breaks, some days we would have a full 10 rounds of boxing and at the end of the week we had an outright winner (it was not me), I even asked to be blue just in-case something was not right but sadly they are identical and it looks like I was not the better boxer.

Each arm has a control button that when pressed shoots the arm into a fierce upper cut, when you get a good hit on your opponent the other granny will tilt backwards.

Now I am 30 years old and the Boxing Grannies are designed for ages 8 years and over, I did let my 5 year old son have ago (supervised by me) and he was playing for over 30 mins with them.

To be honest my 9 year old daughter just turned her nose up at the Boxing Grannies when first asked to play them and went back to playing her Nintendo DS, but later that day I found her playing away with her brother in a Boxing Granny match.

In Summery: The Boxing Grannies will get boring after 15 mins of play, but we found they are great for filling small gaps in your day or to occupy small amounts of your child’s time.
