Well this makes a nice change from talking about all the U.S.A’s new weapon systems, this is the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank used and built by the UK.
As we do know the U.S has some amazing kit but is just a case of (all the gear, no idea?) I personally think so.
As we know the British forces are said to be the best in the world and things like this prove it.
The famous Challenger 2 is not just your normal battle tank is has some top features such as:
- Gyro-stabilised primary sight with a laser range finder
- Gyro-stabilised primary sight with a laser range finder
- Coaxially mounted auxiliary sight
- The driver’s position has an image-intensifying day and night periscope
- The loader has a day sight
- L30 CHARM 120mm main armament
- Thermal Observation and Gunnery (TOGS)
- Second generation Chobham armour
Although many tanks have similar features in modern day this means that the crew of 3 has to be well trained and not as trigger happy as the U.S.
Is this what makes the British forces the best?

You should proof read your articles before you publish them. Do a little research, the M1A2 also has a crew of three which means you comments of trigger happy americans is simply a biased attack. If you don’t like the way the American Military does things (by the way your opinion is debatable) it is laughable to include those opionions in this context. This is a weak excuse for a product review and is poorly written. No disrespect to the British Military intended as I’m positive they have nothing to do with this article.
CR2 is a four man crew, allowing enough personnel to rest, guard and maintain the vehicle (3 man crews would burn out too quickly, try track bashing, then ammo stowage, then guard duty!). Strangely it is easier (and cheaper) to maintain than the US tank and uses less fuel. there is nothing wrong with the M1A2 its just you need the American economy to run it and we, in Britain, don’t have that sort of gelt.
I think the Challenger has proved it’s effectiveness as the best MBT in the 2nd Gulf war. With not a single loss of a vehicle (not so the M1A2) and the fact that one took a number of RPG and one MILAN anti-tank round plus no amount of machine-guns rounds, gives credit the the CR2.
Operating costs have to be minimal (a big consideration for the British Army) and the CR2 is cheaper to run than the M1A2, so the CR2 scores there.
There will always be comparisons between the M1A2 Abrams and the CR2, and opinions will be biased depending on what side of the pond you come from. But I know what MBT I would rather be in if I went to battle and had a choice.
