A remake of the Karate Kid isn’t high on my list of must-see movies, purely because it’s such an iconic film to begin with and doesn’t need to be touched. The concept was so great back when it was released but I think today’s generation wouldn’t be impressed because it lacks CG monsters and gangs shooting each other.
Although I thought I wouldn’t be happy with such news, the reports that Stephen Chow has confirmed to Moviehole that he’s in talks to direct a remake and play Mr Miyagi has actually made me quite interested.

Talking to the site, Chow said, “I’m very fond of ‘The Karate Kid’ and would love to join in the remake project, no matter as a producer, director or actor. But it depends on my schedule. As you know, next year I will work on two movies, Dragon Ball and Journey to the West.”
Stephen Chow is a different kind of crazy. His comedic action sequences are brilliant and I think he could actually polish Karate Kid in such a way that it has the same impact on today’s kids that it did back then for us lot.
