Sky News Online Removes Madeleine Link: Is it all over for the missing girl?

Is it all over for the missing girl?

Sky News Online has been one of the news sites that has been at the forefront of bringing the latest in Madeleine news. So, it came as a shock for many when they realised that the Madeleine link on the homepage had been removed. What does this mean for the missing four-year-old? Have people lost faith in keeping Madeleine in the news because there have been no developments now for months?

Sky News Online Editor Steve Bennedik has written on his blog that removing the link doesn’t mean that poor Madeleine is forgotten. He went on to say that

“Our move is simply a recognition that seven months after she went missing, Madeleine’s story is no longer dominating the news in the way it was, and we can no longer justify its prominence. I know this will be disappointing for many of you, while the search for Madeleine remains unresolved. But I hope you understand why we’ve made this decision”.

So, what do you think? Should they have removed the link when they redesigned the site or do you think it’s important to keep Madeleine in the news?

AS A MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER I AM DISGUSTED AT SKY -I CERTAINLY WILL NEVER GIVE UP HOPE FOR MADELEINE-THIS BEAUTIFUL CHILD HAS BROUGHT TO THE FOREFRONT JUST HOW MANY CHILDREN GO MISSING AND ARE SOON FORGOTTEN-KEEPING HER IN THE LIMELIGHT WILL REMIND EVERYONE THAT THIS KIND OF THING WILL NEVER BE TOLERATED-CHILD ABUSERS AND ABDUCTORS SHOULD BE HANGED AND I FOR ONE WOULD PULL THE LEVER

Please keep Maddie in the News. I check Google News everyday for updates. Everyone still wants to know what is happening.

They removed it because the parents are no longer suspects! The same is true for Swedish Aftonbladet who really enjoyed in parent accusing – see http://klevius.blogspot.com/2007/09/swedish-media-fascism-mother-blaming.html
This in line with a general tendency to accuse innocent parents while boosting the social state and its commercialized trafficking in children (while usually neglecting the real child abuse cases – see my thesis “Pathological Symbiosis”) – with dire consequences for the kids.
And if Islamic kidnappers were involved political correctness easily silences the case.

I feel it is a grave injustice to have removed Madeleine’s heading from your home page. There is still tremendous press related to her. What does it hurt? It costs money to leave a link on the page? Please. Perhaps you could change the heading to missing children and highlight the problem for what it is. You could become an advocate and be regarded as compassionate to the plight of all these missing kids. Until Madeleine is found, I wish you would leave the link as I know many, many, other do as well!!

Without a doubt, Madeleine needs to be kept in the news. Her face needs to be seen by all the public. She could be anywhere and the more people see her the bigger chance we have of finding her.
I also check news every day, still hoping to hear something positive about this beautiful little girl.

I too was digusted that sky had taken madeleine off. They’ve used her image while it suits them, and they should keep her image up to remind people that a little girl still needs to be looked out for.

Sky, please keep your Madeleine link. I check every day for news of her. Thank you.

  • Jennifer

How can we be disgusted Madeleine’s link is taken off when there are so many other missing children who we should be instead begging that space to be used for? She has already received more visibility for any other missing child. Maybe that space should rotate to another poor baby out there. I too google Maddie everyday, all I am saying is there are other children out there can’t we share some of our compassion to other children who are invisible right now?
