Windows XP on OLPC
According to the WSJ Microsoft is about to start testing Windows XP on OLPC XO laptops in US and India from next month.

The general manager of Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential Group, James Utzschneider, has said we “wanted Windows to run on the XO and [that it was] investing significant energy and talent“.

Although the project was initially called “an alternative to computers based on Microsoft’s technology”, it was going to run on Linux software. Now Microsoft wants to make sure XP runs fine on the XO laptop before it commits to governments.

What do you make of the OLPC project and Microsoft’s involvement?

The title to this news item seems to suggest that Microsoft is busy testing their XP operating system on the OLPC XO: “Microsoft testing Windows XP on OLPC XO laptops in US & India”. The next line reads in part “…Microsoft is about to start testing Windows XP on OLPC XO laptops in US and India from next month.” And then to add insult to injury you display the XO with its Linux interface in a news item about Microsoft’s as-yet-to-be-crafted XP on the OLPC. Microsoft’s XP on the OLPC is vaporware and you’re breathing the fumes.

This is soooooo ridiculous. Microsoft stated that it wants the children to be able to access thousands of educational programs. As the Technology Coordinator for a school District, all of the educational software that we use is web based and doesn’t require any specific OS. Sorry M$, those of us in the know have you all figured out…. It’s all about GREED:)
