Live Preview Of Yahoo Messenger For Vista

Regardless of the Mac vs. PC adverts which have been seen recently, Windows Vista still has a lot going on. Hoping to gain from the Vista users out there is Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo has recently previewed a new beta version of their messenger for use with the new Windows Vista.

Yahoo Messenger Beta comes with a few cool new features. For example, you can now change the layout and colour of your IM contact list, have a sidebar gadget which keeps important contacts separate from the conversation window and a handy tabbed conversation window to simplify multiple conversations. With Yahoo Messenger beta, you can now send files up to 2GB and can send IMs to both your Yahoo contacts and your Windows Live Messenger contacts.

However, the preview is lacking some key elements. For example, there seems to be no webcam, chat rooms, voice, conferencing or IMVironments. These features are key for any IM service and are likely to be available with the next Vista release.

The screenshots below are looking very cool but the beta version already faces some stiff competition from the advances Meebo, AOL and Microsoft are making.
