March 2002 missing canoeist turned up after 5 years with no memory

It has been an emotional reunion today for John Darwin, a 57-year-old father of two, after he was presumed dead in 2002. Mr Darwin went on a canoeing trip off Hartlepool in March 2002 when his canoe capsized.
A full scale rescue mission was called but nothing was found apart from a smashed up red canoe, John was then presumed dead.
After 5 years john turned up at a central London police station and said “I think I am a missing person” he had no idea about what happened, or where he had been, how can anyone explain this.
Was John Darwin a victim of extraterrestrial actions?
