I was hugely excited when I first heard that Brad Pitt and Edward Norton were reuniting for the Hollywood remake of State Of Play so when news broke that Pitt had walked away from the project, my heart sank. The studio have picked themselves up and dusted themselves off, however, and have spend the weekend trying to get Russell Crowe to star instead.
It seems Crowes schedule leaves a substantial gap for him to film State of play before he starts filming Nottingham for Ridley Scott in March. The studio need an answer from Crowe soon, before other cast members leave the project due to other filming commitments.
However, despite the possible replacement, Brad Pitt and the studio are still butting heads. They are both blaming each other for Brads departure and there is talk that the studio are suing the actor as they claim he has a ‘pay or play’ deal. Pitt, of course, denies this.
Pitt or no Pitt, a State of Play movie would be great and I hope the studio can resolve any issues and crack on! I think Russell Crowe is more than capable of the role and his performance in the recent American Gangster only further confirms that.
