Making Sure Your Child Is Safe This Christmas

Many people have now started their Christmas shopping and many will be buying toys for their children, grandchildren etc. With the many recalls we’ve heard about recently it is incredibly important to know the toys you are buying.

The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges people to know which toys are safe for their child and hope that shoppers will take more notice of the warning labels on the box.

To make sure you’re clued-up on toy shopping safety, follow CPSC’s Top Safe Shopping Tips. When choosing a toy for a child, make sure the toy you are buying is suitable for their age group:

  • Be a label reader. Look for toy labels that give age and safety recommendations and use that information as a guide.
  • Select toys to suit the age, abilities, skills and interest level of the intended child. Look for sturdy construction, such as tightly-secured eyes, noses and other potential small parts.
  • For all children under 8, avoid toys that have sharp edges and points.

It may seem obvious to you, but many children suffer serious injuries or even die from ill-suiting toys.

Christmas is one of the happiest times of the year and, with a little smart shopping, it can stay that way.
