Sony PS3 Update 2.01: now get upset as no Divx or Xvid
Well I was getting all excited over the upcoming Sony PS3 Update 2.01 as there were rumors that the firmware update was to offer Divx or Xvid support, but now it’s time to get upset as the PlayStation 3 Update 2.01 did not get the support that everybody was hoping for.

So now the Sony PS3 System Software Update 2.01 is ready for download and the improvements are as follows:

  • [Remote Start] feature is changed to avoid unintended power on.
  • Stability of System Software including Internet Browser and Information Board has been improved.
  • Stability during playing some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved.
  • Stability of the upscaler for PlayStation 2 format software has been improved. (Playability of PlayStation 2 depends on model)

Are you unhappy that the Sony PS3 Update 2.01 does not have Divx or Xvid support?

Um, this update was not intended for new features. Only to fix a few problems made by 2.00. Who’s upset.

Most people want Divx or Xvid on the PS3, after every update I am waiting to see this feature soon which is coming.

Although you can install linx, some people do not want to.

DivX / Xvid is rumoured for every single update. Not this one though, it was to fix the botched 2.0 update.

u may find that sony will not include divx till a majour update so we could be waiting for a while yet hopefully early 2008

You’re a lowbrow journalist. 2.01 wasn’t supposed to exist, it was simply added to fix unexpected issues with 2.00. DivX is coming soon but likely in a planned update for enhancements and not patch work.
