A suit has been filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court by the Red Hot Chili Peppers against Showtime Networks over a new show called Californication but in 1999, the band released a hit album with the same name.
The suit, filed alleges that Showtime and others violated federal trademark law.
In a statement from lead singer Anthony Kiedis he said that “‘Californication’ is the signature CD, video and song of the band’s career. For some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right.”
The out come that the Red Hot Chili Peppers want is for the show to stop using the name and to turn over any profits it made to them.
Showtime has yet to comment on this.

The first time I heared of the TV show I been a RHCP fan since 91 thought what a rip off, THE band have a right to sue. Californication is and always will be the best album made… Hyde park rocked when californication was played in 04 that is a feeling that can’t be matched by watching a rip off named tv show.
Totally agree with the band’s decision. I could not believe that someone had made a TV show using this title without agreement, its just theft. Everyone associates Californication with the Chilis. Hope they get millions from the TV show to spend on Baby Bear!
