door-breaching
Have the US army gone over the top with there new door-breaching rifle, $52 million for a rifle that is going to do a job know better than a sledge hammer. This just seems a lot of money for something to do such a basic job, I really cant see the benefit of been able to blow up a door from a distance.

My opinion is this rifle is going to be more of a danger than anything else, for instance if you are going to attack a building and blow up a door from a distance you will have to run to the door opening, which will give the enemy time to vacate or fight back, what happened to the element of surprise?.

$52 millon does seem like a lot to develop such a weapon. I’m not sure that I’m aware of the actual weapon in question, however door breaching has been done with shotguns as of late with a special load. I think the idea is that the one breaching the door is able to have his weapon ready to eliminate any threat on the other side without having to switch from a sledge hammer (or other impact tool). They have also made shortened shotguns that are mountable to the M4s for the door breaching role. Therefore I do agree that the amount of money that was spent was far too much, eventhough I’m a firm believer of weapons development and weapons in general.
